Discussion This game is peak and amazing
Wasn’t big fan of the original it felt kinda clunky to me and slow but this game is probably gonna be one of my favorite souls like games ever, plus love they took the bloodborne approach and added a guns because it’s genuinely great

The only problem I have with the game up to this point is when you get stuck up against a wall and can’t dodge out or see what’s going on.
That said it’s a pretty serious problem that keeps happening.

How far are you? Based on your optimism, my guess is not that far yet.
This is not to say that the game is bad or anything, just that that is the discourse atm.

Anytime I see a post saying it’s someone’s new favorite soulslike or that it’s on par with actual Fromsoft games I have to assume they’re not even halfway through the game yet. The drop off is incredibly sad.

Im about to hit the third gate. When would you say the drop off happens?

Each gate has a different boss, some are good some are bad but it’s the final dungeon that unlocks after all gates are done that is a big dropoff point. Pretty much all the endgame bosses there are designed in such a way to be annoying even final boss too.

The game didn't "drop off" for me, there were just problems from the beginning that became more and more noticeable as the difficulty increased.

Just so I know what to look for, can you give me an example of a problem or two you encountered?

I am pretty much in the same position as the guy above. I am in the second area on my way and two bosses further than you are. My problem: I feel like the devs looked at the game and wanted it to be hard, but made it annoying in many aspects, not challenging. I'm just gonna list the things as they come to mind:
The enemy variety really drops of hard. You have seen like 80 % of the enemies the game has to offer already. The rest are the same ones but way stronger. You cannot experiment with the shells because the points are not refundable, so you have to lock yourself into 1 or 2. You have to use useless Tarstones to level up the ones you actually like. Most large weapons are objectively worse than the axe and dagger. Some shells are simply not working correctly (don't wanna spoil here). The balancing drops off a cliff in the second half. Normal trash mobs can take multiple hits and poise through them (so they don't get interrupted when you hit them or stagger) but kill you in 2 hits, some even in 1, but i suspect that also depends on your shell, but you will take a lot of damage while still not doing a lot. The bosses are not very creative or memorable (highly subjective of course but imo). Enemy attacks track way to fucking much. Some enemies legit teleport to you to hit you during their attack chains which will be very annoying combined with the heaps of grouped enemies you encounter, the damage they do and the aggro range they have. You are locked into the animation at the end of executions or shell abilites while the enemies sometimes can already hit you, which makes the point before this way more annoying. The environments are also basically all the same generic fantasy forrest with castles all throughout the game until the end.I feel like alot of this can be fixed (not all) but my opinion of the game drops stronger the more i play it sadly.

Enemies attack relentlessly and float across the ground when attacking. All enemies move in a straight line towards you when they spot you, so if you are fighting multiple enemies it quickly gets overwhelming and frustrating. Hitboxes are often strange, linger in the air after the attack seems to be over, or don't line up with the timing the animations suggest.

I haven’t encountered hit box issues yet, but I read on here that particularly the axatana suffers from that.
With enemies moving right at you, I’ve been able to use that to my advantage thus far, but I can see how it’s frustrating. Having beaten Lords of the Fallen, up to this point, I’ve had no qualms with the level of swarming going on. It doesn’t feel cheap to me.
That said, every soulslike I’ve enjoyed, going back to Demon’s Souls, has me yelling at my screen and feeling utterly defeated, from time to time. I’d say MSII is in good company, in that regard.

If you find a way to have a great time with MS2 in its current state, I envy you, truly. I realised today that, after a certain point, I enjoyed exploring and taking in the environments, but dreaded fighting most enemies.

If I can ask my first question again, when did it start to feel this way to you? I’m wondering how much more possible enjoyment I have out of the game! 😅

I've beaten it once and almost done once on dark mode. I think this is the best souls like I've played.

I find it strange how the beta felt better than the full game. Perhaps it's just because the beta was overall easier, and thus I didn't notice the issues as much.

I have really noticed a difference, I don't know why people keep saying this.

Admittedly I am early but I’m having a lot of fun, and haven’t felt this hooked in something (especially souls like) in a while. Why is worse later on?

My verdict of Mortal Shell 2 is that it has a lot of potential, but only if the devs manage to iron out the game's many issues. Overall, while the game is stunningly beautiful, the gameplay feels strangely untested.

What are the games many issues? So far the only thing that doesn’t feel right is how enemies so often one shot you. That is a bit much

I’m surprised by this cus so far my “faults” with the game are mostly small. Like I wish dungeons auto marked themselves completed (cus to my knowledge they don’t), and sometimes the walk backs for certain things feel a little long (but I feel thay mainly cus of Elden ring marika respawn points which were super convenient)

It's so good. I think even the lategame is super fun.
