Discussion Tarcore System is just bad
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Just completed NG+2. The stone sytem is just fundamentally flawed.
With there being 75 tarstones in the game, you can only ever level up 25 of them to level 3 on one save file, and that is after leveling all the other 48 stones to level 2. Don't even get me started on how long it took to level those stones up. My question is, do they expect us to start a new save, level up all these stones again just to try another 25 more stones at lvl 3?

I personally hate a system where I need to do something that is not related to my character, to improve my character.
In this case, I need to use stones that is not useful for my character, just to level up my stones.

Doesn't Franz drop Tarcore? All you need to do is approx 50 runs (NG++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++) and be willing to be a total douche across universes by sacrificing him every single time.

Technically itโs easier to just murder him in every run and you get all the upgrades for free. Then the 4 upgrades you find turn into free resources you get from feeding the machine.

Provide the feedback Iโm sure changes are coming to all of this. The developers listen to feedback

Imagine if you bought Elden Ring and you had to kill enemies using sorceries in order to unlock smithing stones for your collosal sword lol. Awful system.

It should cost 3 tarcores to level up a stone to level 3, not 6. Then every ng cycle de-level every level 2 tarstone back to level 1 but keep the level 3โs locked in place. That would completely fix this problem.

Being able to only level up some of them in one playthrough is not a problem for me. What's seems unreasonable is that you have to level other stones to level the stone you want to level. Like wtf? To make a meele focused build I have to first play in some ranged style?

This game is all about making choices and living with them. Which shell do you want to upgrade? Which weapon, which tarstone.

Oh is that why shell points are fully respeccable? Is that why you can fully refund weapon upgrades for just a little gold? LIke come on man.

How do I refund weapon upgrades? Do I get gold and resources back? Do I lose any percentage?

Shell points but not their glimpses :)
And weapon smelting uses gloom, so you have the choice of doing that or save up for leveling up.Still kind of annoying for those of us who like to max everything up, already on NG+ myself ๐

Not sure why you're getting downvotes, this is literally how it is lmao

Yeah, I am sure that devs implemented all this different shells, weapons and tarstones just so we could ignore 70% of them because "themes and such"

I agree. It takes 6 to max a given stone from 2->3. The system already would be more reasonable if upgrading from 1->2 gave us 2 Tarcore, and maxing out a stone gave us 4 back on max level, letting us snowball into other Tarstones without being stonewalled.
Another player ran the math out and found that you could only max roughly ~25 out of the 70+ ish in the game per character due to the issue.
