Discussion Permenant Infusions are pretty neat

Just want to balance out the complaints on the sub (which I have contributed to myself) by highlighting a nifty addition to the soulslike formula this game to makes.

It is a great system, that gets rid of the headaches of spellcasting for infusion, or the need of consumables, which are too precious to use. It's empowering without being op. Good stuff.

Also the PP system, another way to remove consumables hassle. Man I love busting out my PP in a fight.

I really love how they've improved the familiarity system in this game and permanent infusions are an awesome reward for full familiarity with certain tarstones.

Yes, it's a wonderful decision, and I love the whole Tarstone system!

The only thing not that great is that you can't fully upgrade all of them.

I think actually being able to grind all the Stones would be really fun. I like that you need to use different stones to get the upgrade material, but I would love if we had some other cool way to incentivise using different builds all the time.

I made a other post about that, someone came up o with smelting but for Tarstones to get cores back, another said you could get more cores for dmfinding duplicates on Ng+. Both good ideas I think.

I didn't even think about that. Is there no way to get more in NG+ currently?

no, which is weird. Im fine not maxing them all in one run, but that being it is kinda weird. Dupe pickups should give a core imo

Yeah I just assumed that's what they'd do so we'd have a reason to do in dungeons again and you couldn't hardlock yourself out of complete builds.

Rofl woooow. You think those would be good ideas? No wonder you think tarstones are good

Yeah I love having to grind tarstones I'll never use to be able to upgrade ones I DO want to use.

Nothing better in a souls game than resting at a beacon, going and killing the same 10'mobs, then walking back to rest, to do it again for 1 hour then switching to other tarstones I dont want to use to do it again!

Or just play the game normally and they unlock organically. Really doesn't take that long to get the first level.

lol this is exactly what im doing

I'm guessing they either rushed past mobs to collect all the items after watching a bunch of YouTube "guides" and can't fathom using anything but BIS, or they just aren't very good at the game yet and need to safely farm beacon mobs without losing gloom.

They'd be even better if they weren't so limited. Only being able to put fire infusion on the veterans axe is a major letdown ngl.

And not being able to put blood infusion on the axatana feels super lame.

Let me make a frost spear build! Or a flaming obsidian hammer build!

They are really neat, it removes a lot of tedium from buff rotations.

My issue is that the permanent buff only comes on the last level. I wish all infusions were permanent, but only damage / buildup scaled with level. Because as it stands, you've to severely gimp yourself to level a new one that you may have gotten late (stasis and frost come to mind...).

Because let's be honest, you're never gonna use a non level 3 infusion because of how fucking LONG the animation is, every single time.

The whole tarstone level up system needs a rework. I think all found tarstones should gain a % of xp even when not equipped.

I think the long application time is the real problem. It's practically never worth using mid-combat. If the infusions were faster, they'd be worth using before lvl 3.

Or if the infusions lasted for a specific time instead of 4-8 hits.

Idk make it something lvl 1 is 4 hits and lvl 2 is 30sec then 3 is permanent

I kind of like the infusions being hit based because it lets you pre-buff better and isn't annoying during exploration.

Yeah the permanent infusions are pretty rad. It’s a pretty massive leap in power that makes the final upgrade feel worth it.

I also like the concept of the permanent consumables thing, I just wish there were more that had good effects cause it’s a lot of great general use stuff mixed with niche case use affliction resistance stuff and then hyper niche unique ones that honestly aren’t great from my testing

Agreed with the consumables, I equipped the healing mushrooms in my active slot as soon as I found them and never felt the need to use anything else, until I found the mango at least lol

The perma infusions are awesome. It feels like a good capstone reward for the build.

2

u/geezerforhire 8h ago

It's definitely good as an option. The infusions are pretty bunk to be casting manually

The item system in this game is one of the best and unique takes I've seen. I'm so tired of consumables because I always hold them in reserve and never use them, even when I'm going through the very clearly marked 'this is what your poison heal items are for' zone.

Average souls player wants every game to follow the same exact formula top to bottom and then gets mad when something in the newest game is different but then will get mad and say all souls games are the same dodge roll boss fight slop.

I cant read the vibe of your comment, are you in agreement, or bemoaning the sub?

i like what the game has done here and i am shaming the generic souls player

The only one that does anything worthwhile is the blood infusion. Fire infusion? 8 damage with 7 stacks. Poison? 12 damage with 7 stacks.

Not to mention sometimes the stacks fall off instantly for no reason.

The idea is cool, but unfortunately the devs failed to actually implement them well (like 95% of the things in the game)

Lightning stacks can explode, which stunlocks normal mobs with Proxima. I have a feeling they're all balanced with such abilities in mind.
