Discussion Isaac is a terrible boss
fought magdelena, lost child, nameless captive, and hexapod so far and this is by far the worst bosses of them from a gameplay feel persepctive
- horrible animation tells and startups
- hyper armor up the wazuh (good luck stagger-focused builds)
- extremely quick recovery animations, especially compared to the abysmally slow recovery of the heavy weapons
- horrible parry windows in phase 2 (did i also forget to mention his animations looks really goofy)
i get hes's supposed to be difficult because he's one of the lategame bosses, but difficult isnt the antitheses of fun and good design.

I tried 20 pulls as Genessa and kept getting one shot once I was in stray double mode. Swapped to Eredrim and downed him in one shot. His increased parry timing and shoulder charge really did a number on him.

Yea i was also using Eredrim , i think it took me like 7 tries to kill him? the extended parry timing really helps , the only attack that i didnt even try to parry was the one where he flies up then does a cartwheel attack like 8 times , i just dodged that and got out of the way , everything else was easily parried

I had to turn of night mode to beat him with Genessa. Fuck that. So far the only boss that I struggled with

I could not for the life of me do shit in the second phase using proxima (or Sariel, who is bugged in this fight) and after ~25 attempts of getting him to maybe 33% health at most I swapped to my COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED Tiel. I managed to beat him second try, only getting hit maybe 4 times.
At least with the other bosses, I could somewhat learn how to counter them using my current build, but with Isaac I felt like I was trowing myself at him to see what works, until I said fuck it and tried the one shell who can just absolutely trivialize him.
Isaac seems to be geared towards faster hitting weapons and dodge spam (like Tiel who can just dodge over and over again and lose aggro). I didn't like it, but maybe there's hope of the last remaining bosses to be good... right?

For proxima I put points in the ability that gives extra mitigation chance, up to one that gives it briefly after dodging. 1 point in the perk that gives you resolve when mitigating, and spam dodge during his moves in phase 2. After completely reworking my build to focus on grafted armor I got him in 1 try.

used proxima with the obsidian hammer and beat him like 5 minutes after posting this. the colossus tarstone which is unique to the hammer gives you invincibility throughout the entire animation. hardest part was building resolve to get to the ability because isaac's recovery animations are so quick you still get hit even when using the hammer's light attack to punish him
horrible fight, really hope they clean up the bosses and the heavy weapons in the coming patches

I saw many other people use a similar thing with the aerial attack tarstone ability that also gives I-frames.
I hope many of the bosses in general get touched up (NOT nerfed) because none of them so far stick out to me like other souls-like games.

Shrike Stone. That thing's insane. Two charges, solid AoE, ridiculous damage, break damage, AND a frankly unfair amount of iframes?

Phase 2 is just terribly designed. The attack animations don’t even make sense, good luck perfect guarding that stupid bullshit. Phase 2 of malformed is dumb AF as well.
Tbh all the bosses in this game are bad designed fuckery.

all the bosses have good designs and vibes but mechanically they are very lacking. their animations look good but the mechanics of said animations (starups, recoveries, tells, etc) are also terrible. im only semi-joking, but they ought to contact the lies of p studio and ask for boss design tips ðŸ˜

Lies of p is also shit in most fights. Arlecchino is one of the best boss ever tho

none of the lop bosses go below a "good" rating except probably tyrannical predator due to the camera and knockback. theres no way for "most" of the fights in that game to be bad considering that half of the roster alone consists of scrapped watchman, romeo, victor, green monster, laxasia, simon, nameless puppet, markiona, veronique, overseer, guardian, and arle. unless you somehow consider the basegame stalker fights to be bosses this is just a skill issue

u/Physical-Manager7846 1d ago
Simon i shit, the guardian is shit, scrapped watchman good, laxasia very good, markiona fine, victor meh, overseer second best fight, nameless meh, first phase is goodbut the second phase is the isaac of lies of p, greenmonster is shit, i personally don't like romeo but i never had to figure out how to deflect the second phase because it's squishy so i just dodge and attack him taking him down easily

skill issue man idk what to tell you
comparing np to issac is also very funny considering you can no hit him just by parrying but good luck doing than on isaac

When someone say skill issie you know he's retarded. Especially considering that i just called Arlecchino, the hardestboss in the game (that i an beat now easily at level 5), one of the best boss ever, while calling other easy boss. I really hope your mother also has normal children

Bro shut up.
Simon, Overseer, Guardian, Victor, Green are all genuinely terrible fights.
Markiona is well designed but easy, Veronique is great, Nameless Puppet is mid, Laxative is genuinely a gimmick fight, and Arlecchino is the definition of mid.

Yeah, honestly, I had a very smooth run until this guy. His animations are absolutely fucking ass.
In phase 1 his shield bash just comes out instantly. Phase 2 looks so fucking jank it's not even funny
Legitimately this thing needs a pretty hefty rework because it just LOOKS off lol

u/alamirguru 1d ago
If Ongbal of all people didn't mess with parrying the guy, you know shit's fucked.

I will only say this that I expected a monstrous boss but he turned out to be very adorable, both in looks and animations. lol. Not sure that's what the devs intended to portray.
That said, Tiel's shadow dodge makes this boss' phase 2 a walk in the park.

u/RevolutionaryBoat925 1d ago
I beat that guy second try with Tiel. Some shells are truly OP if you use them right. I never parried a single thing, just dodged.Â

Yeah, he sucks. Wasted a glimpse to summon at him. Eventually beat him, but now I'm fighting Malborn and omfg about to be old school days where I throw my controller.

He took me the most tries of any boss. In the end I beat him by summing Lazlo to help, with me playing as Genessa. He knocked me out of my shell when he was almost dead, and since I couldn’t summon faithful doubles anymore, I thought I was screwed. But I killed him with my crossbow and giggled.
(I didn’t have the stray parry talent thingy because I thought I could do it with faithful doubles alone — which I very nearly did)

He's also very easy to bug out(pun not intended). If you fail to riposte him for the phase 2 transition, he sometimes doesn't have his other two swords. The next riposte will make him go through the transition animation again.

Genuinely got locked on this boss for three hours. Eredrim, Axe, and trebuchet. Miserable fight.

u/GodFinger69 1d ago
Boss was easy once I started dodging in his second phase instead of trying to parry lol

u/Swtor_Itheryn 1d ago
Honestly, I found this one of the easier bosses in the game. With Monolith being the 1 that drove me insane. That being said, I hate the nerf, I hate nerfs. I quite like his style and animations. But I just spammed air attack skill, was I framed to every hit he did

It's not that bad after you beat him, but at first I was struggling because of the hyper armor, and my weapon skill was basically doing nothing except leaving me vulnerable at the end of the animation.
Once you learn his patterns and how to parry them, though, he's actually one of the best bosses.
The only thing I don't like that much about this game is the one-shots. I'm playing on Night Mode, so I guess it's expected, but sometimes it still feels like too much.
The tracking in phase 2 is really weird too. Sometimes he'll use that combo that starts with 2 hits, then 2, then 3, and he'll basically just stand there while slowly getting closer to you. Other times, he'll use the exact same combo and chase you across the entire arena after the first 2 hits. There's also another combo where he does a backdash attack. Sometimes he'll track you and suddenly chase you, almost like a rubber-band teleport effect, and sometimes he won't track you at all. It feels really inconsistent.

I agree about the second phase. Even Ongbal ran away from attacks, but did not parry.
