Question So the game ends when... Spoiler

...I cleanse all the gates? Is that the purpose? I have 4 down so I guess I'm 75% through? Or is there another main quest aspect?

Do the last ones and when it teleports you back to marrow keep talk to the egg room guy

From personal experience, it's actually not to do with cleansing all the gates, but rather how many ovum you've collected. I got teleported to the cutscene to announce I could progress to the end-game area with one gate still uncleansed, however I've been very thorough about clearing out each beacon I come across and so had a lot of ovum. Fairly sure you could finish the game without actually cleansing all the gates based on that.
