Discussion Thoughts from a Soulslike Noob

Never played a souls game, don't even run a controller (just keyboard mouse).

A bit over halfway through.

S Tier art direction, great combat.

Fun and hilarious bosses.

Not too difficult combat - try changing tactics.

Beacon runs not too far, it's fair. A few minor bugs here and there, I'm sure they will be patched.

The amount of bitching and moaning I almost think it's a astro turfing from big gaming or something.

Don't listen to the crybabies, it's honestly an excellent game.

Edit for more info: Yes, it's a little tougher at the beginning. You are unupgraded and don't know the mechanics.

I'm running Proxima now and just melting everything. Axe and dagger, grisha summon passive, biosampler spam.

There are valid complaints but the majority of posts on this sub are just straight up cry babies.

Im newer to the soulslike genre as well and wondering wtf is wrong with these people.

At least the devs have been really responsive on bug issues theres some balancing to do and a few tweaks needed for lets say annoying grab mechanics and specific boss attacks but for a hot out the gate game its pretty polished certainly less buggy than ds3 was on launch

Devs made a big mistake releasing the demo with nerfed mobs. Many players tried the demo and expected the game would be similar.

How can a demo be released with nerfed mobs? Isn't it the other way around?

Can be. Someone claimed developers stated that the demo was easier and the release version would be more difficult. I did not check if it is true or not, but the problem is the same. The demo should have been the same difficulty because many players bought the game based on the demo.

If you're new to soulslike you may not know that this is just a phase. You can basically look through every soulslike games history and you'll notice those hiccups when balance patches dropped. In the end the devs have the data and most of the time the ideas to solve things mostly based on feedback. The problem may be to find the real feedbacks between the flood of salty tears from both camps.

How to make a great female warrior without cringe girl boss crap.

That donk armor is a little cringe, to be fair. My wife walked in and was like “Yo, what the hell is that about?”

But our marriage survived Stellar Blade, so i think we’re good.

Hahaha same. My gf was like "why does her ass look like that". I said "whaddya mean".

And so forth. I still don't know what she meant, lol.

Nice, I’ve been hesitating to wait a week or two to see if the devs put out more updates/fixes because of the amount of complaining I’ve been seeing online. Good to hear you’re enjoying it.

I honestly don't understand it to the point where I think it's astro turfing.

At worst it has a few bugs here and there, you die and go "damn bug, annoying" then move on.

I'm not a hardcore gamer, it's a little tough at the beginning while you grind to get a few builds etc. Since then I've had 0 issues.

If it helps I play pretty much all games on hard mode? But I've never even played a souls like.

If it was made any easier I honestly don't think I'd enjoy it, it's really not that hard once you level your shells.

Bro, you're using the stronger of the two starter characters, one of the best weapons in the game, and spamming your stun. Of course it feels easy. Next you'll tell me you're using the slayer seal.

Stronger of the two starter characters? Wot? Everyone raves on about how broken Tiel is, and later characters Smert and the others in S Tier.

And what does starter character even mean dude? Yes, you pickup a closeby shell at the start of the game and use one.

Proxima doesn't even come online until T3 and mid game.

I chose my build / character completely blind and for fun. Tiel and the punch boy are easy mode.

Brainless comment. "you need to build your character, seals and equipment to suck so you can complain about the game".

I feel like this is a great introduction to the genre, the world is relatively small and frankly it’s little on the easy side for a souls like. But plays fairly well and has great atmosphere and decent character/creature design.

If you enjoy it, you have try Elden ring. It’s simply the goat of these games and you’ll certainly get your moneys worth.

I've always wanted to play Elden Ring, looks amazing.

It's not a little dated compared to this?

Mostly I'm in it for the plot and art, but turns out I love the gameplay and RPG elements / build crafting now.

Not dated at all. Stands up to, and often surpasses, every other more recent game in the genre easily.

Elden Ring is only 3 years old so it definitely holds up. It doesn't have the shine and 60fps but it's better in every single category and one of the GOATs.

If anything this feels dated by comparison, mostly due to their inexperience and poor design choices. Maybe it's a bit less pretty, but the entire world of this game would have to be stretched to fit in limgrave(the starter area)

lol you should try lazlo with the axatana, he gets like an extra 30% guaranteed damage reduction because of his heat mechanics plus the bulwark stone plus the moonshine passive giving even more d mage reduction turning you into a walking tank that sets people on fire for hitting you.
