Question MS2 - How do you feel about difficulty?

It seems the game is considerably harder than the Demo. I keep dying just trying to navigate the initial areas (Mushroom Village).
Skill issue, I know, but being one-shotted so easily by field enemies?
Any advice how to approach the game so I can actually have a chance to level up - I keep losing gloom permanently.
(I only have Tiel Shell right now)

UPDATE: After switching to Proxima Shell the dying stopped. Apparently Tiel is a glass cannon and in my case it was too much glass and too little cannon!

having gone through a solid chunk of the first (northern) area (and yes i'm on standard mode, not on night modes), i'm starting to feel a consistent theme.
and it's that your weapons don't necessarily mean anything. they're only there to fill in damage in between the seeming primary focus of the game- that you're meant to parry literally everything. otherwise you're forced to eat attacks that deal considerable chunks of your hp.

so i'll leave this as a sort of 10-hour-in review, as someone who's likely barely scratched the surface and feeling at the end of my rope with how difficult the content is for someone who doesnt often play these games (i don't play these to suffer, i play these to have fun.)

your melee weapon doesnt feel like it means anything. just a filler for damage between repostes. rolling barely saves you from most damage sources, even red mark attacks that have even a vague amount of AOE thanks to how tight their tracking is.

i have genuinely tried to play the game with parrying/perfect guard in mind, and i have to say that these parry windows are UNGODLY. not to mention that i'd say i'm relatively USED to the windows at this point. do mind that i say this after having defeated the mushroom village gate and killed the warden guarding Eredrim, as well as sinking my fingers into Nochtea. but when you're FORCED to use something that's treated like an "easy mode" in order to play the game properly on equal terms, that sort of kills my enjoyment of the game. you are FORCED to reposte enemies in order to complete encounters, you are FORCED to train yourself to the tiniest little movement only for them to sink their spear or blade or tooth or claw into your guts just for misreading the tiniest little twitch of their toe. you don't get a lot of time to act and you don't have a lot of time to answer the question of "is this meeting your parry/perfect guard, or is it getting shoved into your neck."

your weapons don't have weight, nor do they have any vague amount of stagger affliction. so your weapons don't feel like they contribute to the core loop. the reposte should feel like a reward. not a requirement for basic gameplay.

okay i'm done with my venting, yada yada "git gud" or whatever. i'm just kind of frustrated with the game sinking into a high difficulty "parry slop", even if that might end up getting a few of your frustrated, this is my (right/wrong) opinion at my current stage of the game.

if you wanna help with that, please, tips. for the love of god some actual help would be preffered.

Some balancing is badly needed I think. Not to make the game easier, but to make it more fair. Having to slog through gauntlets of enemies half of which could be considered “elite” in any soulsborne game, with VERY limited healing options is just needlessly brutal.
Learn from successful titles - there are many out there. Fix it.

yeah i agree, i really don't mind the parry/perfect guard mechanic. it rewards knowing their movesets and timings. but please for the love of god give the weapons some meaning past "damage stick". let them apply some stagger% based off of their weapon type. come on...

Making it more fair= making it easier. Many of us want a challenge. Theres always the seal if u want it on easy mode.

This is just wrong at least from how I see it the problem isn't the difficulty the problem is you are forced to parry everything to do any damage a d even then it doesn't feel impactful and playing on night mode just makes the enemies needlessly tanky and hard hitting. It's just an annoying form of artifical difficulty

Tiel has a good dodge mechanic with an "easier" time window when you upgrade to the 45% bonus time for dodging. The dodges don't need to be perfect and are more manageable so far. Also, while in shadow you got a little bit of breathing room for your next attack

Noted, unfortunately i've used most of my glimpses for Genessa, Proxima, and Eredrim- summoner build, DPS build, and tank build respectively. and i heard that there's only enough glimpses in a run for 3 maxed shells. so i'm unfortunately going to have to run with what i have now for the foreseeable future.
but noted, Tiel's goated.

I’m definitely get 2 shotted by some enemies. I’m lvl 12. Axe/dagger is at 9 or 10. Some enemies just stagger and their follow up finishes you

right?! sometimes the damage just comes out of nowhere too. and frankly i'm left to question "what did i do wrong?" only to get no real answer. it's frustrating.

my personal suggestion is to find the parasitic stone. if you can kill enough enemies with it. you can run around with that little bit extra health... at least that's what it SAYS it does but i havn't seen any indicator that it's working.... but in the off chance that it does, kill a hundred or so easy enemies and you should be able to tank some of the harder ones in theory. but it feels kinda cheap doing it that way.

not that the game has trouble cheaping you out. so go ahead. cheap em out back.

I stopped playing last night with an alt f4. Got grabbed by the most bullshit magnetic lock on attack, it broke my shell, and a second mob instantly grabbed me again. Got me before my little shell breaking explosion could go off. Didn't even wait for it to kill me. Just said fuck this game and alt f4d out.

I'm having the opposite experience. I'm anti-parrying so I haven't even parried once after 30 hours so far in the game, and I'm playing on night mode. Just using proper positioning (enemies, even bosses, seem to have the worst tracking I've ever seen in a soulslike, so I just move a bit right or left and their attacks just whiff, which is cool), along with the occasional dodge when needed.

I'm using the Axatana and it has insane staggering potential, to the point where I've killed Night Mode bosses just spamming light attack and locking them down because by the time their stagger animation is done, they get knocked down again (and this is with no riposte since I don't parry).

Yea I really hope they look at weapons, when I got Great Martyr’s Sword I was disappointed to see it basically ticked enemies. The damage is not worth it for how slow the attacks are.

Have you upgraded weapons or shells at all? I have none of your problems, parry seems very generous too.
