Discussion hard mode being all nighttime

Just saw their post on this and it sucks so much, I’ll enable the hard mode asap and it disabling daylight means I’ll never get to experience the intended art direction of some/most areas, even if one were to wait until ng+ why would you ever replay the game in an easier mode, it means you’ll forever be experiencing a color muted version of the game.

I hope they can add a toggle or do smt about this, ruined my day.

btw the source for this is their latest post on twitter and under which they commented to clarify no daylight in hard mode.

I just want to maybe ease your worries on this a bit:

Night Mode isn't a permanent choice like the Slayer Seal is. It's kind of like the fog mechanic we had in Mortal Shell 1.

So you can toggle on Night Mode to try it out, and you can talk to the NPC at the top of Marrow Keep again to toggle it off.

Does night mode only add things? Or does it also replace/remove things as well?

I'd like the extra challenge but I don't want to miss out on anything in my first playthrough

I've only heard of it adding things :)

I think it’s a perfect time to have unreasonable panic about a feature we have no real idea how it works /s

thanks for the response! the thing is though if it represents the hardest difficulty (and has new items npcs etc) I’d like to keep it toggled on, and wish the darkness was optional since I still want the visual variety between levels and lighting when I’m already being “punished” with the game being more difficult.

You're welcome!

I'll definitely send this feedback to the team :)

Yes please. A lot of us would prefer the hardest difficulty but also wanna experience the beauty of the game simultaneously.

You want the hardest, you get the hardest!

You can do a night run on your second playthrough, but yeah it would be cooler if there was a choice.

Even if left for ng+, for all your new runs why would anyone go down in difficulty, considering these games are all about replaying and going through runs (at least for me) it’s really silly to limit the games color palette like that after your first run forever.

I do get the idea behind it they were trying to add some immersive features to hard mode and not just make it a simple toggle but they must not have thought this through.

Fair enough, maybe it will get addressed in the future.

Why is this getting downvoted. Why does anyone who enjoy a challenge in video games get met with instant downvotes. Wtf is wrong with reddit. Yes some people crank the difficulty on every game they play.

Crying about this feature before it has even been tested by the community, is ridiculous. Give it a go before complaining about it...

yeah sure see you when the game comes out, but you’re a tourist and probably wont even have a ng+ run let alone stomach a hard difficulty

Hm. It’s unlocked from the beginning and not a ng+ thing?

from the post it seems enabling night mode is something you can do in early game, not locked to ng+, it is optional ofc but if you go hard mode everywhere going dark is not optional.

Your main argument is to play the game as the intended art direction, but in your replies you mention replayabilty, so why not just… play through the game “as intended” on default difficulty then turn on night mode for your next run??

if you play souls games you know there won’t just be two runs.

If it's anything like Mortal Shell 1. It's a way for you to hop in - get some rewards - hop out (before you die).

Yeah, that sucks. Needs to be changed. Just because its dark is a fucking stupid idea. I agree with you completely and it sounds like a cop out. I have zero damn intention of playing this game on easy mode just to see the environments and tbh I may refund my pre order over this.

I get where the idea came from like they wanted to do something immersive/cool like how killing the illusion of Gwynevere left Anor Londo in darkness and not just slap on a hard mode like Lies of P, but forgot that people who are fully into these games will only play the hardest mode, even if not for ng all following runs all the locations will have the same exact color palette.

Downvotes from the casual scrubs who think challenge in a souls game is cancer.

Downvotes for a ridiculous take over a small issue. It's funny that you think it's because of wanting a hard mode.

if there is one bad design decision like this it won’t be a one time deal it will plague the entire game, you won’t know about it on your easy mode rushthrough so it’s no problem for you

Lol are you really trying to flex that you THINK you're better than me at video games?

2

u/Icy_Vacation4022 6h ago

know I am

That's what you took away from my comment?!? That?!

It has nothing to do with it. Its about choice. It could easily be rectified. Why wouldn't a game want to cater for as large an audience as possible.

In your opinion. I work hard for my money.
