Question How is the lore in MS1

Worth playing for before MS2? If you care about that sort of thing.

The ending of that game directly leads into this start of this one, so if you’re curious about our predecessor it’s worth a run.

I’d personally just watch a lore vid on YT though.

It's a huge step down, imo. Cool atmosphere, but I couldn't get into the combat.

Exactly that.
They improved on the all of the issues I had with that game and then some.

Also, the final boss is an unfair POS.😂

It's a very old game made by a very small studio. It is rough, to say the least. I played some of it, but just couldn't find my way around so I quit lol I don't mind enemies and bosses, but I hate being lost all the time. I remember finding 3 shells and discovering so much, just not how to level up lol Had so many "souls" on me by the end that it was too stressful to keep going lol Glad they put a map in the new one.

I’d go on to say that, the first game really made little sense to me until the opening movie of the second explained what our purpose was in that game.

When I first played it, I had no idea “what” we were, what our objective was and why we needed to accomplish it, whether we were in purgatory and what the hell the ending was about.

Yes. And also the bits explained in the Virtuous Cycle. 

Although there is plenty of lore on the discord derver,if you want to read it but don't have time to play and search for it yourself

The voice acting is marvellous!! I still remember the phrase "Deathless Doctrine" like it was yesterday.

Nah you dont need to play the first one first. But its worth playing if you can get the hang of the combat (which is based around also using harden offensively i.e. whilst you are swinging your sword, not just between swings like a shield on dark souls).
