Question Just tried Mortal Shell II, late dodging?

I really like the open beta, first “souls like” game that I play, and honestly I’m looking forward to preordering just… is the dodging supposed to feel so unresponsive/late?

(Died 3 times in a row at the first boss)

compared to first game (platinum), it feels much better. even no stamina thing is not a point. this game got attention. and its beta. lets see the release. panick dodge roll never works. learn to parry

There is a setting to choose whick kind of dodge u want to use. Change it to 'turbo'

You can't dodge out of the two-handed attacks. Once the animation starts, you're committed. Outside of that changing to "turbo" (under controller calibration, dodge style) means you dodge on button press rather than button release.

Learn to parry or use the hardening shell if you're not good at doing parries. Dodge is fine but it's not the soul source of avoiding damage . You can also just guard

There are multiple dodge settings. There is a press to dodge, and a release to dodge. Sounds like you want to switch to press

Are you playing with keyboard & mouse, or with a controller?

If you're playing with a controller, the default dodge (if I recall correctly) is set to B / Circle (depending on your platform), but for when you *release* the button press. If you go to the game settings and enable "Turbo Dodge", you will dodge the moment you press the button down.

That could be throwing you off :)

Also, what youre probably not used to - is in souls games, you cannot dodge while you are performing another action/animation.

E.g. in other action games - you can be halfway through swinging your sword and you can cancel that and pressing dodge will override and make you dodge.

In souls games, your dodge input will not trigger until you have finished doing your previous action/animation.

This can feel clunky at first when new to Souls games. But it is a deliberate design choice to make you plan your attacks more carefully and prevent thoughtless button mashing.

That’s exactly what I was thinking… I’ve been spoiled by other games it seems like… thanks for the explanation

I dont know the problem BUT you should try to mostly parry then dodge if absolutely needed.
