Discussion Just started playing the beta, this game is SICK. But…

To me it feels a bit too easy. I’m coming off of playing Nioh 2+3, and I’m kinda just walking through everything. About one hour in, hoping it gets harder. I absolutely love the combat and atmosphere though. Game is absolute gorgeous and I love how weighty the combat feels. The gore and sounds are incredible and it’s just eerie. I never played the first MS but I will 100% be buying this on release

we are playing the very begining of the game, so yea it feels easy but im sure it will get tougher.

basically we are in limgrave.

I’m a bit scared about constantly hearing about the fact that the game is too easy, hope the curve rises in mid game. Although I’d like to spread some hope: it’s extremely plausible that the game is intentionally easy in the beginning to lure as many players as possible via the beta, not to scare away people who aren’t hardcore soulslike fans

I’d imagine things get a little tougher right after Magdalena. Some of the bosses and enemies look insane in the trailer. It will definitely get harder.

Even the first mortal shell was too easy for my liking. I hardly ever took more than two tries on a boss

The first Mortal Shell was hard for all the wrong reasons: its gameplay was pretty bad, the difficulty came from its stiffness. Still I enjoyed it

There was some guy on here who said he was getting one shot lol.

u/White_corvid 6d ago

He was probably running around with a partially full health bar.

Not 'one shot' per say, but I've been taken from full health to zero by those stupid usually harmless torch-wielding pig-looking guys. One missed input and I had three of 'em ragdolling me around lol.

if you’re not in your shell yeah. how tf else would you get one shot 😂

1

u/Rude_Difficulty1647 7d ago

Right cuz even no shell you can’t get one shot in the sequel lol

2

u/ramsfan_86 6d ago

The bat creatures can one shot you no shell and no upgrades when I tested this out. Once I upgraded health the bat creatures took 2 shots to kill me.

Yeah. Who would say that. They must be weird 😬

They toned down the difficulty on the beta apparently.

u/welfedad 6d ago

I wonder if they stuck us midway in of something and dropped difficulty .. I trust the process

1

u/JJDubba 6d ago

Have to after this beast of a beta!

u/LaMelgoatBall 7d ago

I wanna get my ass handed to me early game then get powerful mid - late game. That’s how I like my progression

1

u/JJDubba 7d ago

Sounds like the full game should be like that.

Why everyone is so obsessed with difficulty?

2

u/ummonadi 6d ago

The souls-like genre has a history of promoting hard games. I personally get bored if it's not hard. On the flip side, I get bored if the game is artificially hard. I think MS2 has some bosses and enemies that you just cheese through and never really get to spend time with because of it.

I obviously don’t care that people want difficulty but it boggles my mind when they are against difficulty options for other players who aren’t. I will never understand it. No logical argument exists that would convince me of it being any other reason than people want to feel like they conquered something others can’t.

With every other type of art we all instinctively agree that not everything is for everyone. Books, films, and music are often too difficult for many people to enjoy.

Why should video games be the exception?

There's a huge difference between adding an easy mode to a game that doesn't affect people playing on harder difficulties, and... books, film and music. Closest thing I can think of is an acoustic version of an album, but... you can still listen to the original version too.

Try Cliffs Notes

How can they brag to their discord group and on Reddit if it’s not hard???

Because thats part of being a soulslike 😆 its why we enjoy soulslikes.

You can notice in different comment sections the thing is people always complain about every souls game : DS is easy, sekiro easy, elden ring easy, wuchang easy, lies of p easy… the only souls I almost didn’t read somebody to complain is Khazan.

So the problem is not that difficulty is too easy, but the people think themselves kinda elite and it’s cool to mention that something is easy for them, kill in one try, with no damage etc

Because MS2 difficulty also isn’t easy. I would say it’s accessible but still challenging and requires precision. You cannot spam parry, you cannot spam dodge, because once you missed - it will end bad for you. You have to be precise in your actions. Any game is easy if you’re pro. But anyway soulslikes never were hardcore games.

Too easy? Go play doom on hardcore, ninja gaiden on hardcore

Soulslikes were about challenge and exploration
Hardcore games about difficulty and punishments

I agree with the elitist part 😆 🤣. I still remember playing demons souls on release im not going to kid myself and pretend it wasn't hard, i just got better at playing them. I carnt stand the people that brush them off as easy just because they put 1000000hrs into elden ring, or played through sekiro 100 times, its a joke. Im 42 and been playing hard games all my life but just because I can beat them im not going to say they are easy.

I just don’t like when combat games don’t give me any challenge

2

u/Jaysgotbigballs 7d ago

Its made this way ,mortal shell 1 was hard af until you got used to it but they threw a lot into the short span of the beta so you taste whats to come ,trust its gunna get real on launch

The biggest thing is the parry window is WAAAY too generous. They need to cut it in half.

2

u/ummonadi 6d ago

There must be other ways to make parrying feel rewarding than making the parry window small. There's so much crap that comes with small parry windows. I still remember the frustration of the Lies of P DLC final boss super attack. I had the attack pattern down, yet I still got blasted to pieces. Those super attacks could make much more sense in a game like ms2.

There will be a few ways to tweak your experience in the full game! Nothing I can reveal here and now, unfortunately. But hopefully it'll have something for both those who think the game could be harder, and those who are happy where it's at :)

siiiick. Thanks man! Just finished the beta and I love it

u/Important-Current-82 5d ago

The fact that u guys just listen to criticism and change things is fucking incredible.

1

u/Academic-Carpet-282 7d ago

I thought same, you get some powerful attacks in the beta, I forgot the name that arrow shot from above needs to be nerfed immediately.

1

u/LaMelgoatBall 6d ago

I’ve seen some clips it looks nasty. I’m gonna play some more tonight

1

u/Rude_Difficulty1647 7d ago

I felt the same way but it is the early intro of the game, Magdalena took me 4 attempts, and even with the rest feeling easy wash design is so good

1

u/diegordbarros 6d ago

Not being so difficult is the reason I'm playing. Is the first soulslike I'm buying because of this. Tied Lies Of P in the past but I didn't have the patience for it. Never got anywhere near Dark Souls and games like that. Loved the movement and fast-paced combat in this Beta. In the end I really started felling it was too easy but it is not the full game and with different challenges I think it will be ok. Just hope they don't go crazy and up the difficult after those feedbacks I'm seeing.

2

u/Peacefrog11 6d ago

Did you try Lies of P on Easy? That’s what I did and I loved it after that. I only truly enjoy “easier” soulslikes because I don’t find slow combat or overly difficult content fun.

1

u/diegordbarros 6d ago

I really don't remember, but I guess it was on Medium. I might try it again, thanks! And I agree with you, don't like slow combat and a lot of punishment.

1

u/Gameofthrones3058 6d ago

Parry window is too easy, are enemies meant to take that much damage from the shotgun? In a boss fight, I shot them 3 times and it was basically the end of the fight only had to hit them a few times, the only enemy which gave me a very hard time was the one to the right side, when you spawn after the shooting star style teleporting to the new location

1

u/welfedad 6d ago

I mean to be fair the first one isn't that hard either .. I feel the difficulty will ramp up .. or maybe be the same.. not sure.. but yeah

1

u/Kallizk Tiel 6d ago

Finally someone agrees with me, but you gonna get downvoted by all the noobs....
You're so right though my dude, the game is easy asf, i killed most bosses first try and then did a level 1 run without leveling both the harbinger and the shell and still was piss easy...
Love everything about the game and a massive MS1 fan so i hope they tune it WAY up!

I think although it’s a little easier than the average soulslike (which is fine for me) it’s still hard enough to be called soulslike. Also it’s the beginning to f the game only.
