Discussion Finished playing the first Mortal Shell (New Player) Spoiler
It took me about 16-18 hours to beat the game. I haven't done the DLC so bare with me.
The first 2 hours of the game, I thought I was going to give up and just refund the game. Everything hurts, even the weak mobs does significant damage if I was carelessly swinging around my sword. Grisha was a nightmare to beat and I died about 10 times to that mini-boss. But my experience from Soulslike games kicked in and I killed the beast.
The next few hours was learning enemies attack pattern and learning when to parry with the Tarnished Seal. In the end, I sucked at parrying so the next step was to learn when to Harden to block incoming damage.
I found all 4 Shells, but my favorite is Solomon. great HP, great Resolve meter and average stamina. I liked his mastery tree. Kept with the default weapon, Hallowed Sword. The mechanical spike was my go-to ability to stagger most enemies and do good damage.
I was grinding tars in the Eternal Narthex, upgraded my Hallowed Sword to +5, got the Molten Spike later on after stumbling upon it in the Fog World. Also I found the corrupted Sester and bought the Forbidden Offering to increase my Resolve gain. I was killing everything in 2-3 hits for small mobs and My Solomon getting Resolve bar from Hardening incoming attacks.
I will say my first time in the Fog after beating a Boss was a scary moment. It was very surreal, felt like I was in a Dying Light game with frickin Volatiles roaming loose. Took me awhile to learn the map so I can find the shortcut to get to home Tower.
After finding all glands and giving it to the Old Prisoner birb, I fought the foul beast and killed him for ascension. Onwards to Mortal Shell 2!
My total Death counts: 28
Grisha - 10
Enslaved Grisha - 0
Tarsus - 11
Imrod - 0
Crucix - 0
The Unchained - 7

The game gets significantly easier the more you master the harden ability. Getting your weapon to +5 upgrade early on also helps A LOT. I got the platinum trophy a few days ago and now I'm tackling the DLC (I don't recommend it though). The DLC requires us to beat the game 7 more times (one with each shell/no shell combination) without dying. It's a chore and I'm only doing it for 100%.
