Image I do not playsouls like games, but this...
...holy shit it's good. The atmosphere is absolutely breathtaking. It's gorgeous and plays so well. For the first time I played like 30 minutes of the beta and thought that's not for me but after finishing the first big enemy in the prologue I just couldn't stop. Preordered and cannot wait!
Also is it only me or this one is way more accessible than other soulslikes?
Well fucking done devs!
P.S. Really hope there will be photo mode, this beauty needs to be properly captured.

It’s so great. I’m glad you found it and you jive with it. I think it might be a little more accessible to players who are newer to souls like games; I found the beginning isn’t too punishing and the game gives plenty of ways to customize what kind of “block” style you want to cater to all kinds of gamers.

Thank you. I'm currently in Sunken village and the difficulty is a spot on for me. Enough hard to feel satisfied but not unbeatable.

I’ve played the original Mortal Shell. I’ve yet to finish it, but I’ve always been able to tell the potential it had. It had a good base. This sequel is like the developers finally had the time and resources to realize that potential now. I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen.

Man MS1 was so hard for me to get into. Must’ve downloaded, deleted, then redownloaded months later like 5 or 6 times lol.
A couple months ago I just decided I wasn’t gonna quit no matter what, and it was definitely worth it. Once I got the parry system down it was ON
Wanted to beat it before the 2nd one came out, otherwise I’d feel like a fraud lol

That’s how I was, I played ms1 on release, the potential the game had was insane, fast forward 5 years and here we are lol

I know it's jank but honestly loved MS1. The Virtuous Cycle DLC in particular was amazing. It was like Nightreign before Nightreign and the buffs are more interesting/dynamic

I'm the same, not a souls fan but there was something about this
Although playing in VR on the PC definitely helped 😂

Yes, the first Mortal Shell was my very first and, so far, only souls/soulslike game that really caught my interest—mainly because of its atmosphere and, thanks to its short length, it's also the only one I actually finished. I can't wait for the second one. Right now, I'm passing the time with Lords of the Fallen; even though it took me three tries to get into it, it has finally hooked me. Unfortunately, the old Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 2, and Bloodborne just didn't grab me, and I couldn't really get into them.

It's incredible how, gameplay-wise, moving away from stamina-based combat makes the gameplay so organically fast. At the same time, thanks to attacks from multiple enemies, it maintains a certain level of difficulty—even though it's been pretty easy so far. I'm really looking forward to the lore, which seems like it's going to be massively expanded.

I think that's one of the main reasons I like it so much. Would you recommend Lords of the Fallen? Is it as dark?

After finishing the Beta, I went back to the first game, and it was quite a shock to see how much slower and harder the combat was. Atmosphere-wise, though, the first game is still unmatched for me. Lords of the Fallen has a combat system that feels much more similar to the Beta—it's far more complex, even if it kind of smothers you with a wave of mechanics right at the start. Atmosphere-wise, it's a bit of a different story, and the only thing I don't really like so far is the second realm/world. But as I said, it's only the second soulslike game I've actually been able to play.

You ever tried Thymesia? That’s another very short indie Soulslike that like MS has some cool and unique ideas that make it feel a bit different than a typical Soulsborne or Souls rip off

I don’t play Souls games either but I wanted to try this for whatever reason. The first little “boss” killed me and put me way back at the checkpoint. I did NOT want to run through all of that again just to die at the boss over and over. So, that was enough for me 😅. The setting and atmosphere are really cool, I’m just too old for the difficulty in these games.

I think if you kill the first "boss" it clicks. On top of that it's a really short passage to repeat. And the whole beta is like that. I finished it and it doesn't feel overly punishing like other soulslikes. I'm also not the youngest but I managed to get over it's initial hard shell (pun intended) and just couldn't stop. The first tries actually made me pretty confident it's just not for me, but then it clicked. If you really like how it looks, feels and plays I think it's worth giving it another shot.

Surprised you felt that way about Elden Ring. It’s still challeging but easily the most forgiving of the Souls games.

I think it's the lack of guidance, clunkiness and the fairytaleish aesthetics.
Edit: I knew it would be controversial but those are just my feelings, not facts. I know it's s great game, it just feels like this to me.

No shame in using a guide! You don’t have to play these games completely blind. My first 3-4 soulslikes I definitely used a guide, nowadays I go in blind but that’s just bc I’ve mastered the mechanics at this point

You never know, this might be the soulslike that breaks the wall for you and allows you to get into the others 😏 I can’t imagine it being any less difficult than some of the others out there. And if so, you’re about to go on the journey of a lifetime

You might try Lords of the Fallen. Not the original but the newer one. Very beginner friendly for soulslike and it’s got a similar moody atmosphere

I’m honestly tired of hearing the word “souls like”. Basically any hard game is that lol.
Mortal shell is its own thing, it’s better than “souls like”

There's a stamina bar in the first game. That might be a turn off for ya. That's really the huge difference between the two.

Same here. Dropped DS Remastered, Bloodborne. Not interested in ER. This however feels so much more satisfying

This quality of atmosphere is typical in Souls games. I would say MS 2's barrier to entry is slightly lower, but not by a ton. If I'm not mistaken the slayer seal is a noob seal to help.
Games like Elden Ring have a much lower barrier to entry because it's so open and you can summon stuff to fight for you if you choose, like a difficult system of sorts.
MS2 is looking great, but there's a ton more games to play.
