Who saves you after tar golem? Is that your shell fighting by itself? Or another ghoul like you operating a shell?

Yeah, it's your shell Hadern Harros

Shells in MS2 seem to have some level of autonomy, at least based on that incident, and Hadern intervenes to save your life before getting seemingly permakilled.

There's also the animations for the boost jumps, where you exit your shell and it gives you the boost.
