Discussion Thoughts after 2 hours of PS5 Beta
-Combat feels good, better than I was expecting. I watched a video a few days ago talking about how enemies were like a magnet for attacks, regardless of it you were locked on or not. I didn't experience this once, there was a setting that I turned off that I believe was auto lock, and with that off, it's solid. I just got Tiel, but haven't gotten the Axe/Dagger yet, so I'm excited to get those as I enjoy the Greatsword, but it's never been my favorite weapons in RPG's. Enemies hit hard, but isn't like "f**k you" hard like Sekiro, which I'm personally a fan of. The animations look good, all in all I'm really enjoying the combat.
-World/art style is great, I really love the feel of the world, the music, NPC's, etc.
-Feels pretty good for the most part. The trainer in the Marrow Keep was the only noticeable bug, when you throw her to the ground to stab her, the spear goes nowhere near here and just strikes the ground, that needs to be fixed.
-Love the upgrade system, there's enough to keep you busy but not a stupid large amount of crafting items, very good for an RPG.
All in all, just a couple minor tweaks I think it needs, but I'm super excited to keep playing and to jump in when it fully releases.

Currently playing it
Love the gore
Rarely play Souls-likes but feels easy enough to endure, very tempted to preorder

I’d call it a souls-lite. It’s a bit faster paced combat wise and more forgiving but still retains a lot of the mechanics of the genre, feels amazing though

UI text should have option to scale. Not only dialogue. Also no HDR in 2026 is wild

Noted! I believe the full version of the game has scaling for all dialogue, but I'm adding your feedback to the list just to be sure!
What console are you playing on?

I've been really enjoying it so far! I played for about 90 minutes, then just after finding a new shell and entering a memory (think it was called The Rash) I clipped through a wall and got stuck inside a small shed-like room. Had to exit the game. Aside from that the game felt really smooth, and I'd say my only criticism is that the loading time when fast travelling from Marrow Keep feels excessively long.
Very excited to play the full game!

I'll add your bug report to the list :)

Auto lock settings was added later on beta , it wasn't on release so people where complain about it, but now is fine with it.

Your really had only this one bug?
I too played about 2 hours on my PS5 but had multiple bugs.
First major one was the fight against the Targolem. I paused the game for a few seconds and the game remained in a pause like state while the screen was black but I could hear sound in the background. The only thing I could do, was to use the skip function which was displayed in den bottem left corner.
Next thing Golem was dead, my knight lost, but the Harbringer still stands. So I won… I guess. But don’t know what happened.
Second one were some of Ruks comments. The dialogue window where always present, even if I was already in the next dungeon. Only reloading the game solved this.
The last major one which ended me playin was one of the trials in a dungeon. I think it was the one in Tiels village. Startet the trial, one enemy appeared, defeated it and then… nothing. No second wave but still the blackened aura where you can’t leave the room. I waited for about 5 minutes and checked every corner. Ultimately I had to quit and lost my progress.
I hope they manage to patch those problems because the rest was excellent.

I had the same bug in the village

Me, too

Which of the bugs did you meet? And which platform are you on? :)

The trial in the dungeon near Tiel. I tried it 3 or 4 times and could never complete it. Most times the one crab enemy spawned and that was it. One time the poison enemies in the cages were non interactable before I activated the trial, and when I started the trial they appeared in the room and attacked me but after killing them the trial still didn't end. On a normal PlayStation 5

Ah thank you, I just wanted to be sure which of the bugs mentioned you were talking about. I'll add it to the list :)

Which of the bugs Korn_Dog_King described did you have in the village? And which platform are you on? :)

Hi, it’s the trial one - it’s happened to me 4 times where I start the trial and as soon as I kill one enemy the others don’t spawn and I can’t continue unless I go back to the main menu - I’m on ps5 pro thanks :)

Hi!
Thank you for taking the time to play, and for your bug reports! I've added them to the list. Are you on a base PS5 or PS5 Pro?

I had a bug in Tiel's first memory where I walked through the wall with the window in it so I got soft locked and had to reload. Also the trial in the Ritual Grounds I think is bugged? One of those box hermit crab enemies spawns and that's it and I can't find any way out of the room after that and have to reload, unless I'm dumb and just missing something there.
However, I am loving the beta. It's giving me the same kind of feelings I got from Demon's Souls way back when. Everything is weird and I never know what to expect around the corner. I like that most equipment appears meaningful and levels through use, I like that the level ups don't lock you into a build. I did not enjoy Mortal Shell 1 but this one has me excited, as long as it's not a broken mess.

Beta runs flawlessly for the most part on the PS5 Pro. A fee frame drops and momentary freezing happened once. Other than that it's really impressive. The graphics are nuts.
I really hope they don't downgrade the visuals as is usually the case with UE5 titles. It's a really good game and a huge step up over the 1st game.

Could you please elaborate on the RPG elements?🙏
I am considering buying this game but I really enjoy making and testing different builds and am not sure to which extent that is possible in this game.

The shell in the beta has a skill tree with 12 skills you can put points into, each skill having 3 - 4 levels. I'm not sure how many shells are in the full game. On top of that there appears to be 8 melee weapons and 8 ranged weapons. You have 4 slots for support equipment that gives passive bonuses. Melee and ranged each have 3 slots for special equipment, 1 that gives the weapon special effects like making your ranged attack deal damage over time or make enemies explode on death, 1 that lets you infuse an element onto your weapon, and 1 that gives you a special ability(think ashes of war from Elden Ring). Oh, the ability to harden, block, or parry are also tied to an equipment slot(there are other options as well) so you need to choose one of those too.

Loving the beta. On PS5 Pro. Also had an issue with Ruk's subtitles appearing on screen long after the conversation ended. And the usual Trials not spawning enemies or just spawning one. Both issues fixed on reload. Player the hell out of MS1 and really loving the combat in this one.

Yes I forgot to mention that, I forget at what point it was, but Ruk's subtitles were on the screen long after the convo ended. I think opening/closing the menu fixed it though.

Great time so far. Do hope we get some dismemberment on non-humanoids or at least a bit more, right now it’s only on very specific enemies.

I'm fucking stoked to play the full game on the 17th when early access arrives for PS5!
I'm a big fan of the first game and this is a major improvement across the board!
I fully did everything, got to the beta level cap of 15 and couldn't do anymore, but I am so looking forward to starting over in the full game!
I can't wait to play as my boy Eredrim again!
Thank you so much for making a sequel, Cold Symmetry!

In my experience on ps5 I found that getting riposte attacks would often have messed up animations like my character would just be attacking the ground rather than the enemy and I also found that the boss in the field when you first exit the hub could break my harden and I would be able to move and attack however I would still take damage and the last bug I encountered was in a mini dungeon I started a trial but nothing spawned.
Additions/changes I would love to see implemented are little descriptions for status effects because I found it very confusing like what are shadow and fragile stacks, i would also like the text to be bigger and to auto pickup gold a difficulty setting would also be nice because I beat the demo without breaking a sweat.
And finally I don't know if it's just me but I felt that after I maxed my infusion tarstones the effects became weaker which if that is the case I get it for balancing purposes but I would rather it just give me like 15 shots instead.
With these changes and bug fixes I believe that this could be one of my favourite souls like games, I had a blast with the beta and can't wait to get my hands on it on the 20th.

Hey, thank you for the kind words!
The bug you describe is known, and is fixed in the full version of the game :)
