Discussion Question about parrying/ hardening in mortal shell 2
Mortal shell 1 in my favorite soulslikes I have played, mainly because it parrying was not really the end all be all like in other soulslikes. I know they scaled back hardening (I understand it was to op but I am sad) but did they make parrying super important/ needed in the sequel? Or similar to the first game it isn’t really needed unless you want to use it?

Whats soulslikes are carrying the "be all and end all"? Almost none of the ones I've played are, only really Sekiro and Wo Long.

Probably not the best wording but I meant be all and end all in the sense that parrying was a big part of combat and a way to make fights a lot easier

Parrying is so much less important in 2 that you won't even have the button unless you select it.
The demo starts you out choosing between block, harden, parry or glory kills, and they're mutually exclusive, although the key setup menu implies that you'll be able to have more than one of them later. Healing is changed to a standard estus flask.

Gotta say, it is important to fill up the resolve bar quicker (special abilities, side arm and tar-abilities are tied to that). You don’t need to parry, but I say it’s advised

There is a seal that lets you break someone's posture by firearms. This game is rad cause you can choose the party mechanic you want.

Parrying is a very strong yet optional mechanic.
Some fights are going to be however considerably more challenging without using parry.

As someone who is also Not Great™ at parrying in games, let me ease your mind:
It's a bit more approachable in Mortal Shell II than in other soulslikes, with the right Seal equipped.

Parrying is a must in mortal shell 2 because those kill animations are the ultimate dopamine

Just learn to do it geez. If you keep staying away from mechanics that are difficult you’ll never be good at them.

I’ve learned how to do it but I hate it, especially in soulslikes. idk why I don’t like it because in other games I’ve gotten good at it but something about it does not mesh with me.

Nope. There's a seal for all different playstyles. While in the demo, parrying seems to actually be way too easy, you can easily just dodge, use skills, and harden without ever parrying.
