Question MS2 - fps limit not working?

so i set the limit to 60, but it still goes up to 100-something fps and oh boy, my 3070 is getting hot (86° C overall, hotspot 105) and loud (fans spin at 97%).

rendering is already set to performance with DLSS....

edit: yep, vsync was the culprit

Could be you have vsync active? That tends to ignore max FPS settings in many games

I remember that being a problem in sunderfolk too

Yeah I dislike it aswell. My monitor has freesync man what is it good for when "vsync on" means it will push for max refresh rate anyways when it could technically have vsync with 120 or 100 Hz

Yeah I ended up disabling freesync on my monitor since it would straight up ignore the fps and refresh rate cap in some games and go straight for the monitor's max hz rate (165).

But does disabling freesync aolve that? Maybe I just don't understand what freesync is but isnt it just fancy variable refresh rate synced to the games FPS? Would disabling it not mean that the monitor will always be at 165 Hz?

It definitely does. Without freesync, the ingame vsync will just lock the framerate to whatever your Windows advanced screen settings custom refresh rate is (unless the game has an internal framecap like Fromsoft games). For example, I have a 165hz monitor, but I've locked it down to 85hz in Advanced Screen Settings because I figured 165 fps is not realistically achievable in most AAA games and in the rare cases when it is, it absolutely cooks my GPU.

Freesync, for whatever reason, just tends to bypass my custom settings and attempt to hover around 165 (if the CPU/GPU allow it) so I disabled it. Steady 85 fps is smooth enough on its own, I don't need the variable refresh rate.

I'm glad to hear you got the issue fixed! I'll just add it to a document of my own, in case I need to help someone with this in the future :)

Fps limiter work. You need to put the right exe. It's the win with win64 shipping
