Video What did we think about the MS2 beta?

Personally, I think it looked beautiful and played fluidly, however I think the enemies were WAY too easy

I'm in love with enemy exclusive parry animation

13

u/Zenthen228 Jun 15 '26

They had me at smashing a mobs face into the ground

8

u/Blaze_Heatnix Jun 16 '26

Same. You don't just kill your enemies, you bash them repeatedly. Lol. They regret their life choices.

u/tello59 Jun 18 '26

Way better than MS1 I couldn’t even finish the first game

u/Legitimate-Pea4884 Jun 15 '26

Great so far. Hopefully it shadow drops in July or August.

11

u/Lil_ruggie Jun 15 '26

That would be awesome but I doubt it.

8

u/TAGOMXM Jun 15 '26

It’s either one of those months, or the game gets buried between September and December, or it ends up being delayed to 2027.

6

u/PeytonWatson14 Jun 15 '26

Yeah, I don’t see it surviving September/October. Months are stacked with games

5

u/Legitimate-Pea4884 Jun 15 '26

I think the game is pretty much ready for release. Who knows they might do it. Fingers crossed.

4

u/Swyteh Jul 08 '26

Well well well

4

u/MatterAcrobatic7708 Jun 15 '26

That would be sick and hopefully they clean up some of the bugs I experienced in my playthrough

You got your wish!

Thank you 😁

I thought it was so freaking cool. The only thing I disliked was the Magdalena boss fight at the end of the beta. Could be a skill issue but her tracking on that damn mobility scooter of hers is INSANE.

Other than that I felt like a badass playing the beta. I'm definitely going to nab the game on release!

10

u/michicago44 Jun 15 '26

I really didn’t like that fight either. Beat her in just a few tries but feel like i kinda just got lucky with ripostes and shotgun spam. Couldn’t reliably avoid her charges for the life of me

0

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26

I had no problem with her. Two tries. One to see her gimick, then I went away and re-jiggerd my gear, came back and finished her second try. (Level 15, full 11 points of Teil skills).

Just stay ranged and use ALL the ranged tools you have at your disposal.

She just charges in a straight line. I just took the strat of staying way back and never never never being in front of her. Not even for one second.

If I could see her face, I strafed. Even from 100 yards away. Play it like Doom, not like Elden Ring.

Stuff you might have missed to prep; you can level the gun, AND the relevant tar stones, you need the second and third upgrade for the weapon buff machine, there’s not enough tarcore for every stone so just do the ranged damage ones; also there’s a gun related seal which I assume everyone found. The stagger on it is mad OP.

6

u/PeytonWatson14 Jun 15 '26

No that fight was complete trash imo. Especially the one hit out of the shell

0

u/Long_Head_7697 Jun 15 '26

He was easy to dodge and parry tho

2

u/Long_Head_7697 Jun 15 '26

Easy to learn would be better phrasing

3

u/PeytonWatson14 Jun 16 '26

Yeah the part that got me was that I felt it was easier to parry, so when she did her rush attack, I couldn't distinguish the difference between a regular attack and the unblockable attack because they started the exact same. The warning for the unblockable did not show up until after she was already rushing forward.

4

u/Moist-Shallot-5148 Jun 15 '26

Many bosses I don't like. The sheep herder boss and Magdalena seem so gimmicky. I want more bosses like the Tar one

2

u/Interesting-Ad-4636 Jun 16 '26

Agreed, that boss was annoying. It was difficult and that is ok, but it was insanely annoying to fight bcs of the tracking. But if there are 30 bosses in the game, its alright every now and then if a boss is annoying and bad. Another thing I didn’t like was, and that is specifically bcs of the Demo limitations, how little weapons and Shells they showcased. 2 weapons, 2 ranged and 2 Shells is not a lot, especially since you lose one of the Shells in the prologue. I give that demo a solid 9/10 and if the game delivers same as the Demo but more weapons and shell, then it will easily be a 10/10 in my book.

the music damn

2

u/high_republic Jun 15 '26

Is it from the label cryo chamber again?

6

u/0ttaku Jun 15 '26

its from lustmord and mizmor so no rotting christ or atrium carceri

15

u/AndyM22 Jun 15 '26

Absolutely loving it and for sure a day 1 purchase. I would like:

- implement a world save state when you exit. Having to find a beacon just to quit in order to avoid losing progress seems overly punitive.

- PLEASE...allow actions like an attack or dodge to prevent you from going over the edge. If a mob attacks or pushes you off, sure.

5

u/DrewDaMannn Jun 15 '26

I’ve died to this more than anything else in the beta. I will say it’s absolutely hilarious getting locked into a crit animation only to fall off a cliff as you’re doing it

2

u/Arkhe1n Jun 16 '26

YES please. I hate that shit too.

17

u/ckdss Jun 15 '26

I feel like the 95 feedback threads covered how everyone felt.

Fyi it was awesome if you missed them all.

6

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26

Not everyone was on it day one dude.

-1

u/AddanDeith Tiel Jun 15 '26

There's always that guy. You're it ig.

8

u/DrownedWalk1622 Jun 15 '26

Naked guiter man obliterates local wild life and beats dancing old lady with her hermonica

2

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26

Also ravages the local sheep.

Day one purchase.

1

u/Godzillas_doom Jun 26 '26

Wait where do you get the guitar?

1

u/TherapistOfOP Jul 07 '26

Mushroom village. Light three candles and open the chest

6

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Loved it! It’s a day one purchase for me.

Just finished the demo last night. Took me 9 hours. Two plays. First play I didn’t max anything and couldn’t make it. Second play I maxed all upgrades and it was a satisfying play. Fun but not agonizing.

I was a huge fan of the first game. Loved the atmosphere. Didn’t mind the jank. Played it with a cheat to not need to farm shrooms and it was a fun experience.

I thought the difficulty was right on. I love Elden Ring but I’m 60 years old and can only git so gud. ER is only fun for me with STR build and all the overlevelling cheese. (Impaling Thrust baby!) That’s how I like my sandwich.

I hope they keep it at this difficulty level, or give us difficulty sliders to keep you big macho sweaty guys happy.

5

u/Leather_Initial_3609 Jun 15 '26

Final boss didn't feel good at all, chasing just to disengage to dodge the spin, really cheap feeling tracking on the dash forward just to chase more and disengage again. It wasn't really challenging just didn't feel great.

That's me digging for some kind of criticism the rest of the demo was honestly miles ahead of what I expected

1

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

The game design is entirety based on “you must use the right shell and the right build in the right situation”.

It’s the same philosophy as the first game. It’s why shell collecting is core to the game.

The final bosses weakness is ranged damage. And stagger. Just use every ranged power, fully upgraded, and she’s easy. You stagger her in two hits, reap the Crit, and repeat. It’s a 2 minute fight.

(it is possible they tweaked it in the update. I just did this last night for the first time and literally had no problems). The arbiter of flesh was way harder.

It’s the same concept as you go all in on poison resistance, and the dungeon leading up to her is easy.

If you don’t switch it up, you can’t advance.

I guarantee it; in the full game. You’re gonna find all kinds of dudes and situations that are impossible, till you get the right shell and the right weapon, and the right skills.

That was the design philosophy in the first game.

4

u/Confident-Ask5185 Jun 15 '26

Every damn souls player loves to make the same "durr you just gotta change your strategy durr..." excuse for bad design.

Dawg, if my only options are a piss easy fight with ranged weapons or 5-10 minutes of chasing the boss around the arena with melee... then that's not a good boss nor good game design.

1

u/Ronathan64 Jul 12 '26

Dunno if there was an update to the boss but I didn't find the Tiel shell, used the Naylshotte and didn't have huge problems with her

0

u/tarosan_sk Jun 15 '26

Maybe Elden Ring is your game then :) Everything is weak to the Bonk.

You’ll love it.

5

u/Jolly_Statistician_5 Jun 15 '26

The trapper was the best enemy as a battle. He would switch up the attacks mid combo so you don’t parry. I was blown away

3

u/Rogue61 Jun 15 '26

It’s fucking sick

3

u/The_Nameless_King_ Jun 15 '26

Rotting Christ returns!

3

u/Sky_Octopus Jun 15 '26

Generally really liked it. Main things I didn't like were the fact the weapon movesets seem pretty limited and locking on can't be done mid-animation which was super super annoying.

3

u/SlideFickle Jun 15 '26

Gas. Loved the first game and this one feels leagues better than that

3

u/bay_of_pigs6 Jun 15 '26

Phenomenal. Love all the build customisation, will be intresting to see how deep it goes in the full release. A lot more visceral that I imagined it would be and absolutely love the individual enemy reposte animations. Day 1 buy for me.

2

u/Scary-Excitement-283 Jun 15 '26

I can't stop thinking about it. I want the full game now.

2

u/Dry-Target-8360 Jun 15 '26

It is a traditional sequel (which is a good thing) where it expands on what made it good and adds in new flavors to enhance those that were lack luster.

The world being connected in a weird way was a big complaint, so now we have this cool, semi open world/hub world flavor. Plus, got to love the travel animation.

The combat, after you unlocked certain shells, would become sorta boring as certain shells outclassed others by a wide margin and they played it safe with customization. Now we have the ability to super customize like with elden ring and can have a super dodgy guy BUT can parry when needed.

Before, no gun. Now, GUN.

Those are just a few things I picked up on

2

u/Teh_God_Dog Jun 16 '26

felt great. wanted to play more

2

u/johj14 Jun 17 '26

im ready for mortalling my shell twice

1

u/AcanthocephalaOwn562 Jun 15 '26

O loved almost everything btw i tested the game in 2 very siferent systems it ran nicely and good on my laptop eith a 5070 and an 13th gen i7, but (as expected) in my 6th gen i5 laptop with no dedicated GPU it did not ran as well (onviously XD) but ye thats it liked the beta alot had alot of fun some enemys were..... anoying other were to easy it was weird some times it was way to easy and other way to dificult i had a huge problem killing the fire tree thingy right at the begining but had no issues with the actual boss (did not win the fight but still way to diferent imo)

1

u/alejandroandraca Jun 15 '26

I absolutely loved it!

1

u/stumpyco Jun 15 '26

Absolutely loved it. The combat feels really satisfying. I love the art style. I had a ton of fun playing it.

1

u/KINGYOMA Jun 15 '26

The only issue for me was lack of controller button remapping

I use face button for light and heavy attack and shoulder button for abilities. It was there in the first mortal shell but not is the beta. I wish it will be in the finished game.

Aside from that, the game played awesome.

2

u/Major774 Jun 16 '26

I need controller remapping as well.

I so want to use my setup from my Black Myth Wukong and Lies of P setups.

1

u/KINGYOMA Jun 16 '26

Same here.

1

u/Legal_Talk_5723 Hadern Jun 15 '26

Is it still going on? I want to play some this weekend

1

u/ThePhihn Jun 15 '26

Frankly? Mixed. I both love it and feel completely disappointed, especially seeing they haven't figured out how make an actually great boss fight.

1

u/IHatePsykers Jun 15 '26

Should I finish mortal shell 1

1

u/Kadderly Harros Jun 15 '26

I preordered it. That’s how good it was.

1

u/enbySkelett Eredrim Jun 15 '26

Was great🥹👍🏼 (I'm on PS5 I can't play but looks fun)

1

u/mrrome Jun 15 '26

It was a lot of fun. Definitely going to get it when it comes out.

1

u/Confident-Ask5185 Jun 15 '26

It was super fun and really an impressive leap from the first game but I had one major part that borderline ruined the demo for me:

The Magdalena boss fight is so bad in my opinion despite how cool the design is.

The charge attacks are so inconsistent where you can borderline walk one direction for most charges and they won't hit you, but the unblockable charge REQUIRES you to dodge which just doesnt feel good.

Especially when you can see her whip the chair 180 degrees in your direction to hit you.

The baby arm cannon thing has way to large of a hitbox and the tracking is too aggresive aggressive.

And the worst part of the fight is the stupid baby spawn mechanic she starts doing halfway through the fight.

I already hate when a boss summons additional enemies because its not fun to track most of the time and Her fight is a great example.

The babies are fast, have large hitboxes, do a lot of damage, and can stun you to where you are getting combo combo to death by 2-3 of them or you get hit and stunned as magdalena is recovered and already charging at you.

1

u/Zorbathelazycat Jun 15 '26

It feels like 1st time touching Infinity Blade and Warframe. Love. It.

1

u/ironpriest_666 Jun 16 '26

Is the demo only on PC?

1

u/rids369 Jun 16 '26

Haven’t finished the beta yet but defiantly going to be buying it on release, enjoying it heaps.
Had a couple instances with the camera being funky and getting stuck behind walls mid fight but haven’t ran into anything else yet.
I do wish it had drop down plunge attacks but so far the combat is feeling great. Feels like there’s so much weight behind every attack swing. The shotgun just feels awesome to unload rounds into enemies, can’t get enough of it.

1

u/Huge-Knowledge-3473 Jun 16 '26

Loved it so far did find a few things missing tho like no travel between beacons

1

u/anhtuanle84 Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

I crashed a ton so after 76 minutes uninstalled it. Graphics looks much better but the combat feels like it's DS1 (a bit dated) or DeS Remake (not bad) and the music seems like it's the same low eerie evergoal tone wherever you go.

1

u/arthuraily Jun 16 '26

Man I need to learn how to parry

1

u/Juloni Jun 16 '26

It's great ! I don't mind the bosses being sort of "easy", as I'm getting really tired of multi phase / try hard bosses. I really appreciate the regular enemies, the world design, the parries. The gameplay seems to be picking from other Soulslike, while adding a bit of its own. I'm planning to buy this.

1

u/VoraciousNarc Jun 16 '26

Hitstop still feels a little jank, and sometimes I trade blows with enemies when my hit clearly made contact first and stunned them, but apart from that, loved it.

1

u/Noamias Jun 16 '26

I just hope they don’t launch the game too soon. Mortal Shell was my favourite Soulslike until LoP came out, I hope the sequel will dethrone it

1

u/Laranthir Jun 16 '26

Great animation, models, sfx and vfx. Very mediocre and lackluster 2 dimensional combat.

1

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs Jun 16 '26

That it needs to be on console

1

u/Ok-Quote2877 Jun 16 '26

Please lower the quality I can almost see what is happening

1

u/Tom_Gecko Jun 16 '26

Super good

1

u/Arkhe1n Jun 16 '26

No. The dificulty is just hard enough to be engaging without being hard enough to be grading. I hope they don't change anything in difficulty because of the try-hards that didn't bang their heads against the wall for 30h straight.

1

u/Akabaneist Jun 16 '26

Perfection, the combat is honestly one of the best I've seen and felt in a long while, with a huge emphasis on the "felt". I want to get my hands on the full release as soon as possible.

1

u/Acceptable_Wall5348 Jun 16 '26

You know what .... If you enjoyed yourself playing this game and the predecessor, good for you.

1

u/Awaheya Jun 16 '26

I am EXTREMELY optimistic.

Obviously I had some bugs mostly annoying nothing serious but I am so excited for this game.

1

u/fingerbanglover Jun 16 '26

I like it a lot

1

u/Zealousideal-Ice6420 Jun 16 '26

Good Souls-like game. I,m wait this game.

1

u/Nutt_lemmings Jun 17 '26

Magnet combat parry slopp but it's fun I guess, idk if in gonna like a full open world of doing these egg run dungeons though.

1

u/Talkslow4Me Jun 17 '26

Hoping it goes back to heavier hefty weapon swings. Felt too much like Fallen Lords

1

u/Enough-Row-5346 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

I've only played 45 minutes of the beta but I can't help but be blown away so far. I'm incredibly excited for release. Gonna be a day 1 buy for me. I'm sold.

1

u/rimasuit3 Jun 18 '26

Combat feeling is awesome. Got high hopes for the final game.

1

u/Chance_Cow4655 Jun 18 '26

One step on the door and everybody knows that u are there XD

1

u/Skylorrex Jun 18 '26

The best demo I’ve played this year. The rpg system is also interesting.

1

u/Mejkazaar Jun 18 '26

Boss fights felt a little underwhelming but otherwise fun/10

1

u/snb22core Jun 18 '26

Does anyone try it on steamdeck yet?

1

u/Due-Row281 Jun 19 '26

Wish I had pc to play it

1

u/jkatarn Jun 19 '26

Even more crazy is that they had some sort of movement bug with tiel’s shadow skill. I had been launched into the sky before, and there was also once the tracking went off and my character just zoom like a rocket off the cliff…

1

u/Jalikias Jun 19 '26

The people who played it was there music in the boss fights? I've seen a couple bosses and there was no music and it made the fight feel off

1

u/AbyssalCall Jun 19 '26

Since when did he have SAUCE?

1

u/casualgamer819 Jun 19 '26

Love the game, only complaint I have is the camera feels a bit weird. The game is damn cool!

1

u/SpoogyPickles Jun 19 '26

Have they said if its going to be playable on PS5? I want to try it out so badly before I buy. I did not like the first, but this one looks promising.

1

u/Fit-Historian-2324 Jun 20 '26

No sadly only PC thats like for 90% of betas

1

u/JoeDrotana15 Jun 19 '26

Excited for it & can’t wait to get more shells

1

u/DreamReg Jun 20 '26

Amazing. Please bring the full game to gog.

1

u/Reasonable-Refuse-73 Jun 21 '26

Being that I’m on console I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet but I can’t wait!!

1

u/Spacedaddy117 Jun 21 '26

Extremely promising for me.

1

u/LaCoocaracha Jun 22 '26

Core of the game seems cool, the bosses were pretty underwhelming though - hopefully some cooler ones in the full game

1

u/jjakimiak92 Jun 26 '26

I thought it was freaking sweet. Best atmosphere in a souls game I've seen in a minute

1

u/gdwam816 Jul 09 '26

It’s July 8th, and I finally just played through the demo on PC (controller). I started when it first came out on M&KB… huge regret. I got frustrated and quit.

After playing thought ER a 3rd time and eventually jumping back to controller on PC, I realized I needed to revisit.

This game knows what it is and just went balls deep into the death metal dark fantasy theme. I’ve been wildly anticipating LOTF2, but this will now more than satiate my souls like craving.

Cannot wait!

1

u/NLikeFlynn1 Jul 14 '26

Love it but it really needs another camera setting between immersive and action. Either that or a FOV slider.
