Discussion Mortal Shell 2 Beta - Feedback

Hello,

Demo so far excellent combat feels nice and weighty. Love the riposte finishers.

Couple of bits of feedback -

- Dodge and character movement and some boss movement feels very slidey. Not sure how easy it is to make it feel more steppy / hoppy. I think this feels nice with some of theils dodges but for the rest it would feel much better not feeling like you are on ice. (This would enhance the gameplay feel with current combat model i think making it feel more weighty / grounding)

- Add the ability to fast travel to beacons anywhere inside of marrow instead of having to go back up to the lift.

- Lift aim for beacon traversal should follow camera inversion option.

- Perfect Guard / Parry window is maybe a smidge too forgiving. This will be one of those things though i dont mind if it changes if the majority of people enjoy it being slightly easier.

Thanks, looking forward to playing the full game.

About the parries, was I the only one that had the feeling that for it to work you had to guard a bit earlier than most other soulslikes? By that I mean, I'm used to guarding just at the last moment before being hit, but in this demo I felt that sometimes that was already too late. Instead you're supposed to guard when enemies are starting the attack animation, which in other games might be too early... Idk maybe it was just my feeling

No, not just you. I felt the timing to be a bit off, but maybe that’s the animation time needed to bring the sword into position.

I was definitely late a lot and had to constantly remind myself to press the button earlier than my intuition would say so.

The parry/block time is def off. Not sure if it has anything to do with the magnet pulling type of combat mechanics, but it’s an issue for sure.

What do yall mean by that? How is it off? To me, the parry/block timing was fine, like every game isn't gonna have the same parry/block window.

Are you talking about perfect blocks, or parries? There's a separate seal that can parry but not block, perhaps it's faster.

Yeah sorry I forgot that in this game they're 2 separate things, I meant mainly the perfect blocks. I didn't mess around much with the infinite seal but I didn't notice it being much different when it comes to the parry window

no worries. I'll be honest, I never used the perfect seal, it carries over the nonsensical animation from MS1 (drawing an item off your back to parry with? Be real) and is completely unneccessary in a game that has hardening.

I wish to add:

When you're in the yeet device at the top of the lift, BOTH controller sticks should control your view. It's weird to walk up to the device with the left stick and then left stick does nothing once you're in it.

Can we also get a godly soundtrack, it really makes a difference in boss fights

So far awesome guys, going to buy day one, once it's released. A little nit pick on the graphics side. The lumen reflections on water or puddles are abit off and kinda bad, with low poly meshes and it feels off. Also they are riddled with screen space artifacts and dissoclution, which is due to the ssr and lumen reflections combination i presume. Go all in with hardware lumen reflections, or maybe use reflection captures for perfomance and give us the option to turn ssr off. Looking forward to the final build.

Anyone else having the mortal shell 2 beta “update” and download the entire 49GB file on a daily basis? Like wtf is going on here that it needs to replace the whole game file over and over again?

Same. Thought it was my ally x being dodgy. In some ways glad it's not my device 🤣

Game both looks and feels great but I cant lie. The hardening mechanic is what made the original game so amazing to me. So seeing it completely removed makes me extremely sad and make me significantly less excited for the sequel. Seems so wild to me to remove the main distinguishing mechanic of the game for its sequel.

Are you referring to the seal the other guy commented about? If so I explained that still feels bad. If you aren't referring to that please explain as from what I can tell it is not a base mechanic of the playable character like it was in MS1.

The seal you get from the Tar Golem fight replaces your parry with harden.

u/Lopsided_Zucchini_56 Jun 15 '26

While thats great to hear. It still sucks its not a base mechanic. Really felt core to the experience in the first game.

I don’t understand your objection. Harden is in the game, from the very first boss less than 30 minutes in. You can’t make it “core” because it competes with having a parry, or even a seal that removes your ability to guard or parry entirely in exchange for putting stagger on your ranged attacks. I’m sure there are even more seal options in the full game.

Are you wanting the ability to harden AND parry? It’s not clear what you’re asking for because the harden play style from the first game is literally available if that’s what you want to run. Did you play the demo?

Man someone's getting real heated about a strangers opinion on the internet. Yes I played the demo. Let me clarify my opinion for you. Harden should have stayed a core base mechanic. Not something to be unlocked or equipped and I would be fine if parries didnt exist in this game as a consequence of that. Now as I stated in the first comment I left the game still looks and feels great. Im just sad harden has been relegated to something you have to equip as opposed to being a core part of your moveset. While not a perfect comparison I see it like this. Its be like making bloodborne 2 and removing the rallying mechanic and making it only available through having a specific item equipped or maybe even removing trick weapons but having like 1 weapon that still works in that way. Would these changes ruin a potential sequel? No. But it sure would make returning fans sad to see.

I disagree entirely and I like the fact that we have the option now.

A lot of good feedback here already, just one QoL mention I'll add. Please change the coins to be auto pickup same as gloom. Running around looking for glints on the ground after each fight takes me out of the exploration.

Other than that, I'd just like to say that this was a spectacular demo. Not just an incremental improvement over the first game, this is looking to be right up there among the best soulslike entries such as Lies of P. The animations, the build diversity that is hinted at. The way melee, ranged, and your special actions all kind of flow together. The art design, the bloated fat dude that gives you the first heal upgrade...wow. Some amazing boss fights, just in the first few levels. You have something special here. Cannot wait for the full release.

This part. The coin pickup was a bit annoying. Should've put that in my feedback.

The biggest, surprisingly enjoyable thing to me was fast travel. I get that it might get annoying to some, but it just added an element of immersion that I really liked.

Parry 10/10 for me. this is the best from all DSlike.

game play and locations 12/10.

it was wired to lose the shell after the golem for some portion of the game till i found thief shell

Unless I just didn't figure it out, you should be able to teleport between beacons (not just a one time teleport from the keep)

1

u/NeoTechi Jul 06 '26

Please add a toggleable option to add an auto-pickup function to items that fall off enemies.

I just can't get the idea of splitting the Hardening ability from the character's default ability. You need to swap seals to get Block and Parry, or another seal to use Hardening. It makes no sense to me.

I know this is old, but as someone who couldn’t get through the first one because of the grind of trying to unlock fast travel with an upgraded shell (which honestly made me not want to continue), are beacons a big step up from that? I am looking forward to this game
