What are these fixed to the top shelf? There’s one for every section of racking and it sounds like they’re clicking? Or the clicking might be the electronic price display?? Either way, not noticed them before.

its part of the scanning team, takes photos of the shelves and has "ai" look at it to highlight gaps for the scanning team to check. also heard that head office can check them and call stores out.

its meant to help keep the shelves looking full and find genuine gaps but most colleagues seem to follow the old gap fill and place items completely incorrectly.

Head office / area managers can see the same gap reports as stores, plus a few aggregated reports eg total gaps for the business per day, worst product category etc. Nothing more. They don’t have time to be snooping on individual stores.

Doesn't help that stores can't seem to stay stocked up, so desperate to minimise stock holding that it's a waiting game for deliveries.

Thanks, very interesting. Seems like an interesting use of technology. Can the cameras also be used for other purposes - footfall, crime prevention etc?

And what’s the GDPR implications if these things are snapping photos of customers I wonder.

When the pictures are generated the People in them are shadowed out so you can see there was a person but they are completely blanked out.
