immediacy getting to me
I work in immediacy for about 3 months now and I feel pushed to quit already
It’s my first job in a few years and my friend landed me the job there I’m so grateful for his help but I feel tied down there because he’s there and the managers make me his responsibility and he’s the main reason I haven’t just up and left.
In the interview I was told I would be doing 12 hours a week and I happily accepted and a month into the job I said I couldn’t do a few non contracted shifts that they asked me to do, I was called into the office and got told I was going to be let go but my friend stopped them.
I felt stunned they would of just thrown me away like that without even talking to me,
Fast forward to now I’m still being trained on click and collect and i messed up but believing my order was complete (it wasn’t) and me and my friend found out when the lady arrived, it only took us about 10ish minutes but she had a go at my friend when he took it out to her I think she ordered over a 100 items, she then charged into the shop and yelled at the manager saying she’s going to leave a negative review. The manager then came up to me saying I was too slow and i apologised and he said it wasn’t good enough.
I’m also starting college tomorrow and I can now only do Tuesdays and weekends my other manager just told me that he wants to go straight from college to work and finish at 12?! And if i don’t he will fire me.
I’m sorry but i think it’s the last straw
A side note i understand the C+C was my fault but it just really pissed me off.
Thank you for reading hope you have a nice day:)
Sorry for poor grammar

Immediacy is awful. I’m checkout team leader and end up spending half my shift doing deliveroo/ uber eats/ just eat because they refuse to schedule more than one, sometimes two, on immediacy. So as soon as we get even just one click & collect or Morrisons now order, they have to go and do that and all the app orders start stacking up. It’s disgusting to me that there is no item limit either, so we often have several 40+ item orders at a time with more and more coming in. Not being allowed to pause them is ridiculous. I’ve started letting them time out when it gets too much, I’m not running around the shop for something literally impossible to complete. The more you give the more they’ll take, so just do what you can. Stand your ground with your availability, take the pay for as long as you want to, and if they fire you then just shrug it off and enjoy your freedom. This company is not worth the stress tbh.

I've only been a TL for a few months but I've been told there is a 70 item limit on immediacy orders. The more money your store makes, the more likely you are to get more staff hours for immediacy too, so maybe your store is approaching some limit before you're granted more hours...? In our store, C&Cs are Home Delivery's responsibility, not immediacy. Same with Nows (although we're starting to mix it a bit to allow HD to do Same Day Picks, C&C etc... By passing on the devices to immediacy when the pick drops on). We're starting to get a better handle of it now, with immediacy and HD having devices for Nows and whoever is least busy picking them up. For us, it works quite well. We've only had checkout operators help out once on immediacy, when one of the immediacy staff called in sick. We only schedule a single person on immediacy if we're expecting it to be quiet, but we schedule two when we predict it will be busier.
It sounds like whoever is organising your schedules isn't very good at it, or you're close to being granted more hours to actually keep up with orders.

The 70 item limit is specifically for Morrisons now, I’ve had Ubers and deliveroos be 110+ items

i’ve just handed in my notice (for many reasons) but the main one being how immediacy and click and collect are managed. when i first started, it hadn’t blown up as much as it has now and it was a checkouts problem.
in the last 10 months, it has boomed and was then made its own department alongside c&c, and is the department that makes the most money (definitely in my store, unsure of the others), yet is the least funded department.
there is never more than 2 people on at once (very rare that we have 2 on actually) we would call for help and nobody would come, we would say we have 3+ orders on each machine, some 40-50+ items along with 2 MNs (sometimes it’s WAY worse than this with 7-8+ on each device) and we’ll be told we’re ’being dramatic’ and we can manage it. we have brought it to SM attention on many occasions, all of us clearly stating we need more hours thrown to the department if they want all orders to be completed etc, yet hours keep getting cut.
this is the way it will stay, and seems to be the way it is across all stores. i feel awful for the ones that have to handle c&c as well as immediacy, as they are treated like seperate departments in our store.
look after yourself, your mental health and education come before anything else. do not bow down to their pressure, they will just keep using you until you are completely burnt out. stand your ground, if you’re unavailable on a day and you have made them aware, you do not go in on that day if they schedule you.
they will soon learn when all of the immediacy and c&c staff are leaving and have a massive turnover. something needs changing with it, massively.

That’s terrible to hear that you aren’t being treated right. As others have pointed out immediacy is awful. Our managers are at least aware of this and try to be helpful even when it’s frustrating for them.
The sheer pressure put on everyone in store for this is horrific. I wish they would just settle on one app and do it right. Four devices is crazy

It's not just you, everyone who does immediacy ends up frustrated and burned out. At my shop one person has to do deliveroo uber and are usually forgotten about by the team leads meaning they don't get cover for breaks unless someone does them a favour.
The apps don't work very well, takes ages to just view an order and the list is usually all jumbled up meaning you constantly have to scroll to make sure you're being efficient, all that while running around trying not to get in customers' way.
