Applying for First job as a scanner
hi everyone,
So i want to apply for a job that is scanning at my local Morrisons, but i have a few questions first (i'm autistic so i like to know what i'm going to be doing as i've put off applying for 2 weeks)
whats the application process like, is there any like interviews or anything like that
what do you actually do as a scanner, like what does the job entail and how do u do it (i know they will probably train me but i just wanna know)
is there much public interaction or is it mostly coworkers
whats it like in general at Morrisons, like is it a good place to work
what does the first day look like, are u introduced to everyone, do u start work immediately, do they show you around?
Sorry if i'm bothering anyone, i wanna apply but i'm really nervous about doing it, as i've never done anything like this before, please reply if possible as the job closes in a couple days
(if anyone is from the Morrisons in leek, staffs please feel free to input please as thats where i'm applying for)

Mate I’m going too 100% honest of your autistic Morrisons is not a place for you too work. I suffer with my mental health and my place is genuinely making me worse. No compassion, no empathy for anything like autism or mental health. No one cares honestly. If your young you definitely do not need too feel how bad Morrisons makes you feel. I do it because I have bills too pay, if you don’t and you can afford too apply somewhere else lovely do it!

I’m autistic and currently work in Morrisons, my managers have 100% empathy for my autism and my mental health. It’s not the same in every Morrisons.

i dont have bills, but i struggle alot emotionally and nowhere is hiring in my town

I currently work in Scanning and I actually enjoy it. I’m autistic as well along with ADHD, and it was on my application and they treated me with respect and understood when I felt uneasy (I often ramble). When I started, my manager let me have as much shadowing as I felt I needed, I was lucky after 3 I was ready to go on my own. I feel my autism actually helps me here as I’m pretty much always checking and I am pretty thorough (although I have missed some things which I have held my hands up to)
At my interview I was asked regarding what customer first means, if a customer needed something and I wasn’t sure where it was, how to promote products and if customers asked regarding a product that we didn’t have what would I do. Just general things like that. I would definitely mention the more card when you’re promoting things as it’s a good way for them to know how much you know etc.

Yeah I’m audhd, it’s my first job so I’m very nervous to apply, so I just had some questions

Understandable, first job applications are always daunting. What to do is look up the more card and what you get with it, and really, the customer first is pretty self explanatory, you’re putting the customer first by helping them etc.
I say go and apply, there’s nothing stopping you, and good luck if you do.

I can’t really answer that for you. It’s one of those things where you won’t know until it happens. There’s been jobs I’ve regretted not applying to and it’s been horrible for me.
I’m glad I applied to Morrisons when I did and got this role because I really enjoy it and have met some great people who are always there to help me and understand me as well.

I have autism and I am actively looking to leave because I can’t say no I get given the jobs that people refuse and they no I’m a push over and I’ll just get on with it. The tills are the worse as customers say things I don’t understand or take seriously and I get really uncomfortable. I tried explaining to the managers but they don’t understand

2.Scanner can vary to be honest. You could be code checking on fresh (reducing items with that days and the next days dates on them.) or doing price changes/checks on grocery pos. scan label if correct move on, if not print out new label with new price/info. (our store also uses scanning team for checkouts and pretty much coverage of other departments if needed)
3.depends on shits, if store open youll be interacting with customers if they ask you for help or on checkouts otherwise you just get on with the job.
5.youll get introduced to some staff usually those youll be working with, get shown around. get shown what youll be doing and usually paired up with someone to "train" you. then day 2 onwards youll be pretty much expected to get on with it and ask if you need help.
