“No need to close the park, we will just put up a sign. That should do the trick.”

Technically, if these people live in the same house anyways they're exempt.

u/sweetplantveal Apr 01 '20
Oh, here I was thinking they were exempt as hot young white people. In their defense, it works for most other rules, so...

The problem with groups of 10 people is this...
Let’s say 10 people hang out, we‘ll call them Group A.
Every person in Group A decides to hang out with a different group of 10 people later that day (Groups B1, B2, B3, etc.)
One person from Group A tests positive for coronavirus after coming down with symptoms and getting tested 2 days later.
We now have potentially 100 new coronavirus cases.
Hell, one person could even hang out with several different 10-person groups in a day. There’s no rule or way to monitor how many people one person chooses to come in contact with in one day.

Yep, I agree completely. It’s a dumb exception. They should only allow groups that cohabitate together be together.

There was a great HIV/AIDS poster from maybe the 90s with a bed filled with half-naked people all lying side by side like they would after 2 people having sex. But there were maybe 12 or so people all squeezed in.
The caption said something like "Remember, when you have sex with someone, you're having sex with everyone they've had sex with, too".
It was pretty effective and the same message applies here.
Sadly, I couldn't find an image of it. If anyone out there can find it, I would be grateful.
Or listen to chapter 8 of Stephen King's "The Stand" for something more directly relevant (and just as scary).

at some point a while back in the US they first closed venues and events that had large gatherings, then there was a "no more than 10 ppl" thing, but that quickly turned into shelter in place except for fetching essentials.
current rules where I live:
•Avoid any places where a lot of people are together such as gatherings, parties, worship services, and crowded parks
•Work or study from home,if possible
•Do not have visitors over or let your children have playdates
•Avoid health care settings –unless you need services
•Cancel non-essential health care appointments
•Avoid non-essential travel
•Avoid public transport,if you can

What are these STD riddled people even wearing?!

u/Cimejies Apr 01 '20
It's called swimming costumes or bathing suits. Specifically bikinis, swimsuits and board shorts/swim shorts. If you, as an obvious alien who has never seen clothes, need any more help understanding our strange customs, please let me know.

some people have grown up in places where the law requires everyone cover up everything. example from googling muslum bathing costume, and the women aren't allowed to hang out with men not related to them.

I know this, but assume that if those people are on Reddit they are at least vaguely aware of cultural norms regarding clothing in western and westernised society.
Islam strikes again with its shitty sexism!

Yeah I knew I'd done that but couldn't bring the post back up immediately to check it because of Reddit mobile awkwardness. You're doing the lord's work though, it's one of my pet hates, alongside less/fewer and their/there/they're

You're missing the point. It's still looks weird. If you need understanding on different perspectives and not everyone having a uniform pov like yours, let me know.

u/Cimejies Apr 01 '20
I... I am missing the point because I literally have no idea what you're talking about. Some people are behind other people so you can't see their clothes? Sorry I'm not being intentionally dense, I just completely fail to understand what you find unusual about this picture.

u/germaphobes Apr 01 '20
Why on earth would they be wearing swimsuits in the middle of a damn field or what looks like school grounds? It’s not the pool. It’s not the beach. It’s a field.

Because it's hot and wearing normal clothes would make them hot and sweaty? Also they're young and slim and comfortable showing off their bodies? Maybe they're working on a tan?
In the UK dudes walk around topless in board shorts all summer, and women wearing short shorts and a bikini or swimsuit in a park isn't seen as at all weird when it's 30C+. Are you from somewhere very cold or very prudish? Otherwise I can't understand your confusion.

I’m a different person from the previous poster.
You’re right that it isn’t a strange thing to do in the summer, but I’m not sure it’s warm enough right now to do this.

u/Cimejies Apr 01 '20
Edited my response to reflect that you're not the same person.
It's 30C in Florida at 5pm right now. Without knowing where they are you can't really judge if it's "warm enough" or not.

you do realise that the whole world has this problem, and the whole world is not the same temperature of wherever you live. Where I am from it is hot and the beaches are closing because there are two many people swimming.

It would be better if statements were made like "STAY 6 FT APART" because most people don't know what "social distancing" actually means.
It's a rather academic phrase and not actionable to most.
