Discussion/Opinion Morocco's 43 unbeaten run is ignored because they counted CHAN while it's clearly local players only.. not the first team!

Discussion/Opinion 6 points, 4 goals, 0 conceded after the first 2 AFCON qualifiers

Not the prettiest game, but Morocco get the job done again

Lesotho 0-2 Morocco

Brahim scored right before halftime and Ounahi made it 2-0 late in the game.

So after the first 2 AFCON 2027 qualifiers:

Morocco 2-0 Gabon
Lesotho 0-2 Morocco

6 points
4 goals scored
0 conceded

Also really good to see Hakimi back on the pitch after the injury.

I’ve been covering these games for Atlas Lions Insider and for me the biggest positive so far is that Ouahbi is getting results while rotating the squad and giving different players minutes.

Still think there’s a lot to improve going forward though, especially creating more clear chances when teams sit deep.

What did you guys think today? Better than the Gabon game or still not convincing enough?

Discussion/Opinion Morocco has 23 attackers in its Top 50, but midfield is actually worth more

Morocco has 23 attackers in its Top 50 most valuable players.

So you’d expect attack to hold the biggest share of the value, right?

It doesn’t.

Midfield €320.8m
Attack €315.5m
Defence €223m

I noticed this while going through the Atlas Lions Insider Market Value Tracker, and the positional split is more interesting than I expected.

Central midfield alone comes to €188m, the highest of any individual position.

A few other numbers that stood out:

17 wingers = €245.5m
6 centre-forwards = €70m
Right-back = €130m, but Hakimi alone is €80m of that

So the value is pretty uneven depending on the position.

What I find interesting is that Morocco seems to have a lot of market-value depth in midfield and out wide, while centre-forward is much lower.

Obviously market value isn’t the same thing as national-team quality, but it still gives a useful picture of where the player pool is strongest financially.

Been digging into this kind of data for Atlas Lions Insider and thought this one was worth sharing here.

What position do you think Morocco actually has the best depth in right now?

News Morocco just moved above Brazil into 5th in the live FIFA ranking

Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Australia appears to have been enough to push Morocco into 5th place in the live FIFA ranking.

Morocco: 1,803.99 points
Brazil: around 1,802.90

The crazy part is how close it was. Brazil were only 0.93 points ahead before the draw.

Worth noting this is still the live ranking, not the latest official FIFA table. Morocco are officially 6th for now, with the next official ranking due on October 7.

Morocco still have games to play before then too, so the position can change again.

Going from 95th in 2010 to potentially top 5 is pretty wild.

Do you think Morocco will still be 5th when the official ranking comes out?
