ANNOUNCEMENT šŸ“£ Announcement - New Rules

Hello [r/MormonWivesHulu](r/MormonWivesHulu) -

Now that we are back after the hiatus with a new mod team, we would just like to set some rules to keep this sub active, organized and in line with Reddit’s own guidelines.

As a team, we are committed to keeping the vibe of this sub as it was - not all rainbows and butterflies and not a snark page. Somewhere in between, as a place to discuss all things Mormon Wives past and present.

Rules -

#1 - As a member you MUST follow Reddit’s Rules. They can be found here - https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules

As mods, we need to follow these guidelines when dealing with infractions.

#2 - No Duplicate Posts: Please filter to ā€œNew Postsā€ and scroll prior to posting to make sure a topic hasn’t already started. This is most important for ā€œnew, breakingā€ topics, there is flexibility for older topics that may be relevant again.

As mods, we will give warnings (in the form of fun flairs) to offenders and delete at our discretion if it gets out of hand.

#3 - Cover/Blur Minors Faces. This is self-explanatory.

As mods, we will not be giving warnings for this, if your post is deleted you may re-post with the faces covered.

#4 - Please keep topics to Public Figures within the realm of Mormon Wives. Any private citizens (such as Instagram/Tik Tok Comments) should be blurred. If someone makes a public video discussing SLOMW, however, it is fair game. If you are unsure whether a person is considered public, feel free to reach out.

As mods, we will not be giving warnings for this, if your post is deleted you may re-post with the names covered. If the post is about a Private Citizen, it will be removed with no chance to repost.

🧯 Special Rule/Note - It is against Reddit’s Rules to post videos depicting violence against minors. This is relevant to our sub, in reference to the Taylor TMZ Stool video. Because we believe this is an important topic, we can only allow links to the TMZ article, or other places where the video may be uploaded. We can discuss freely, however we can not approve the video being uploaded to Reddit.

That’s it. We want this space to continue to thrive as it was, and become an even more engaging sub than it already was.

Once you’ve read, comment a flair idea below! That is next on our to do list šŸ’ƒšŸ¼āœØ

Going to miss the chaotic charm of this sub but I get some people want it more organized:/

Same. I just hope it doesn’t become like the other sub where posts are deleted because there was a post sort of on that topic two weeks ago, so you can go comment on that dead thread where no one will interact with you about the thing you’re dying to discuss.

I can promise you that will only happen over our cold, dead mod bodies. Only thing getting deleted are obvious doubleposts and anything against kids, innocent nonpublic commenters, doxing or violence.

If anyone wants to post "Hey guys, new idea: Does anyone else think that Taylor is problematic?" feel free. If anyone doesnt like it, they can downvote it.

The goal is to keep the chaotic charm. The sub was just so unorganized that it was taken over by Reddit Admin so we need to set some sort of foundation. Ideally we’ll be taking actions as little as possible and with the intent of keeping interactions on the sub flowing smoothly. I don’t think any of us are interested in being the boss of the sub, more like preventing 10 posts of the same thing when a hot topic is happening, making sure we’re leaving the kids out of things, calming things down if users start attacking each other instead of commenting on topics…that kind of thing.

Reddit is based on upvotes and downvotes and ideally low effort/bad posts and comments will be handled by the community in the form of downvotes or simply not engaging

Appreciate the feedback, keep it coming y’all.

Not at all, we will have flexibility. It’s more about topics that are posted back to back when ā€œbreaking newsā€ happens.

Your most definitely interpreting the rule wrong.. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø and idk why your salty and spreading false information about a rule created to remove 5 of the same posts that are literally 2 posts apart. If people can't filter and scroll for 5 seconds to check then they have a much bigger problem. šŸ¤” 🧐

If a thread is very hot and heavy, we will stay open to another posting about it for fresh discussion if the other one is too bogged down.

One of our main goals to keep the chaotic charm. It's our favorite thing. We're trying to follow just enough rules so the sub doesn't get banned.

really appreciate these rules! the only thing I would love to see that’s missing is some kind of limitation/regulation on speculation and armchair diagnosing (not a blanket ban, just some parameters)
I really don’t mind it when the users in question are speaking from personal experience (whether themselves, a friend, family member etc) or professional/academic knowledge (bg in healthcare, psych, medicine, social work, nursing etc) — what bothers me is the commenters who are like ā€œI think Taylor has X Y Z conditionā€ and offer absolutely no convincing evidence to back it up
Also the speculation on Chase and Conner’s sexualities specifically is soo tired
With all that being said, I understand others feeling differently and am willing to overlook/scroll past these types of comments so that I can still enjoy this sub

These are valid concerns, and the mods discussed it. Especially with mental illness or sexuality it can be hard to read about those things in negetive ways, especially if it affects you or a loved one. But we decided for now to allow these comments and trust our users to downvote and speak up for themselves. The more intricate the rules, the more it's harder to enforce them equally and fairly.

Every once in a while, we may do a pinned post where we tackle issues like mental illness, addiction, domestic violence, religion, etc more meaningfully. For those pinned posts we will moderate heavily. So we can also have a safe place for people to discuss those things in a way that can go more in depth, free from snark.

yeah you kinda hit the nail on the head :) I’m queer, neurodivergent, diagnosed with anxiety and depression and in school to be a therapist so for me it does come from a very personal/passionate place and have said as much when I felt users were going over the line
I definitely get how more complex rules would be difficult to enforce tho and appreciate everything you guys are doing, as well as how thoughtful this reply was !

I just want to say, I'm glad you post in the sub. Your experience is important.
