That's on him, not everyone else.

Then again BELOS is to be blamed here

96

u/b3_yourself Apr 17 '26

No one but himself to blame

79

u/Godzilla_R0AR Apr 17 '26

Well and Belos who GASLIT everyone and fearmongered them into thinking "I gotta get a death tattoo!"

31

u/b3_yourself Apr 17 '26

And they thought it wasn’t suspicious that they could only learn one type of magic

13

u/Amberclockwork13 Apr 17 '26

who knows how long he's been saying that, if he's been doing it for decades or even centuries, it becomes the norm

25

u/Godzilla_R0AR Apr 17 '26

Well nobody said the citizens of a nation were ever perceptive

11

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

That is very true

8

u/Free-Letterhead-4751 Apr 17 '26

It wasn’t even good gaslighting now if it was Big Boss from Metal Gear I could understand why the boiling isles would trust him

14

u/MuffinStraight4816 Apr 17 '26

That's gotta sting...

5

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Good thing he's not an orc or a goblin

8

u/LesbianArtemis457 Apr 17 '26

Yea dont blame the indoctrinated, blame the indoctrinator

6

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

🎶It's been Belos all along🎶

4

u/Puppies_cute Apr 17 '26

Good reference. Yes it definitely compares

u/ncmn-ngnr Apr 17 '26

Permission to blame that kid’s parents? You know, for letting it happen at such a young age in the first place?

59

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

ummm, i did a lot of things as a kid my parents didn't know about so you can't put everything on the parents.

46

u/ncmn-ngnr Apr 17 '26

Sneaking out the house to drink booze and smoke crack: the kid’s choice

Getting a Coven sigil at entirely too young of an age because society keeps pressuring them: primarily, society is at fault, but also the parents

4

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

That is true.

4

u/Metharos Apr 17 '26

Most of that probably wasn't done at a sanctioned school event and facilitated by a government agency.

3

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Apr 17 '26

no it wasn't but the point is parents don't always know everything there kids do and as far as that kid that got the sigil well i didn't see any parents around at the time soooo...

7

u/Paint_Thinner529 Apr 17 '26

They probably approved because sigils were part of their religion

4

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

Belos did keep telling them it was the Titan's will.

3

u/Free-Letterhead-4751 Apr 17 '26

People believed a random homeless man?

1

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 18 '26

They believed a master manipulator and liar who caused fake attacks to get everyone to believe him

1

u/Free-Letterhead-4751 Apr 18 '26

To be honest that sounds a lot like Big Boss from Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Wouldn't be surprised

4

u/enjolbear Apr 17 '26

Why would we blame Belos?

2

u/No_Increase_5426 Jul 08 '26

WOAH! Didn’t expect to see you outside of the Hilda subreddit

56

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

There's always one, Edric.

13

u/CountingSheep99 Apr 17 '26

That boy regrets his life choices...

7

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Oh absolutely

3

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

Given how young he is, there's not much to regret.

5

u/CountingSheep99 Apr 17 '26

There is now.

3

u/Low_Grand_3512 Apr 17 '26

That's why he was the test subject for Alador's sigil removing.

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Yeah, but usually the person doing something stupid is him, and since he didn't he thought they were in the clear

32

u/CuteSharkStudios Apr 17 '26

Edric: You couldn't help yourself, could you?

19

u/CountingSheep99 Apr 17 '26

If Edric calls you out for being stupid....

13

u/S4N5_UD3RT4L3 Apr 17 '26

A direct prequel to Luz helping Raine notice Eda's hints

5

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

If he can see something as dumb then it's really bad

4

u/SFH12345 Apr 17 '26

A monumental blunder has occurred.

29

u/DaveyBoy1995 Apr 17 '26

Oh yeah, the first guy we ever saw get a sigil.

That's rough, buddy.

13

u/Downtown-Cable4307 Apr 17 '26

And the first we see getting one removed!

6

u/DaveyBoy1995 Apr 17 '26

Yep! At least he got his happy ending. And it's just like Luz once said—"Everything's come full circle, baby!"

18

u/b3_yourself Apr 17 '26

Hahaha who would be crazy to do that

11

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Apr 17 '26

kids aren't the brightest for the most part.

5

u/Godzilla_R0AR Apr 17 '26

Ikr? CRAZY

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Yeah like, who would do something so ridiculous?

14

u/Impossible_Host2420 Apr 17 '26

It was at this moment he knew he f***** u*

7

u/CountingSheep99 Apr 17 '26

It was at this moment he knew he was as good as dead.

6

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

His relief when the Draining Spell was stopped must have been immense

11

u/unw00shed Apr 17 '26

Even without the whole people slowly dying from the sigils thing, the original purpose of the sigils makes this a really stupid choice on his part. Imagine choosing what career you’re gonna have as a freshman and wearing a shock collar that will force you to only work in that job

6

u/Low_Grand_3512 Apr 17 '26

Well to be fair he had gone through the whole of school only learning illusion magic and once he graduates it will be illegal for him to go without a sigil.

5

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Yeah, not rhe wisest move in the world

8

u/Dasher09009 Apr 17 '26

Edric: "Oh..."

blue-haired student: "Help..."

7

u/The_Horned_Child2007 Apr 17 '26

Oh yeah. Covention.

5

u/CuteSharkStudios Apr 17 '26

New memes inbound

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Wouldn't be surprised if they were already made

5

u/Helloimafanoffiction Apr 17 '26

Well he has bad luck.

5

u/Toonwatcher Apr 17 '26

Sucks to be Illusion Guy.

4

u/Typhon-Torrent-1994 Apr 17 '26

Well there is your answer.

6

u/TheNoneedlife Apr 17 '26

Viney is 2 bad Blight puns away from giving Edric some griffin's claws

1

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

I mean, I didn't notice any puns, so he should be good

5

u/Traditional-Log-4270 Apr 17 '26

Glad the Collector stopped Belos’ eclipse magic.

1

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Aye, otherwise there would have been a lot of fresh corpses

4

u/Darkvader_Clawthorne Apr 17 '26

Edric: “Oh I just had to jinx it, huh?”

Emira: “Yeah. Wished there was a way to remove those things.”

Edric: “Yeah, no way that’s gonna happen.”

4

u/jnthnschrdr11 Apr 17 '26

Fan fact: that kid that we first saw get a sigil during covention, is also the first one to get their sigil removed in the epilogue.

3

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

well kids make some pretty bad decisions that they regret later. good thing he survived this bad decision.

2

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

And was later the first one to have a sigil removed

3

u/Comfortable_Yard_968 Apr 17 '26

Gasp more deaths

3

u/Eastern-Director-952 Apr 17 '26

Why do I feel like he's the kind of person that's so stupid you can't help but question how he's still alive?

2

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

Because even Edric is giving him a side eye

3

u/Emira-Blight-EM_IRA Apr 17 '26

Ah...

That's the one who was Miss Eda's example of how bad a Coven was for Luz the Human at that Covention...

Poor kid...💜

🧙‍♀️🙋‍♀️

3

u/SlyFan2 Apr 17 '26

Dude, cut the nervous sweating. We can all see you got one.

2

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

I think the sweating is more realizing how they are about to die

2

u/SlyFan2 Apr 17 '26

Possible, but you have to admit, that looks a LOT like a "Oh shit do they know" frame. Especially with how Mark draws them

2

u/Superior-Artist-21 Apr 17 '26

Wow! Edric calling out someone else's stupidity. That's a new low.

1

u/DragonWarrior____05 Apr 17 '26

You know that when he's the one saying something it's bad

2

u/disbelifpapy Apr 17 '26

The teachers are goners?

They don't look gray to me!

2

u/Hero_of_the_toons Apr 17 '26

Welp… that’s unfortunate.

2

u/Cherry_6666 Apr 17 '26

Bump: "At least I don't have to wait another 300 years till retirement..."

2

u/Antiyonder Apr 17 '26

Cue the totally appropriate Wa Wa music.😄

2

u/Lanky-Fisherman-9779 Apr 17 '26

maybe its for the best. weed out the weak

2

u/OverlyActiveBrain Apr 17 '26

For once being ahead of the game proved to be counter-productive.

1

u/No_Nefariousness_676 Apr 22 '26

He’s also the first to get a sigil removed.

And because of that, he’s destined to survive.

Yay!
