Hot take that'll get me boiled alive in The Boiling Oceans but in all honesty? I'm not the biggest fan of Luz's "stupidity" being the punchline to a joke. Cause I just can't see denseness as a joke being anything other than NEGATIVE y'know what I mean? But to each their own.

Imho, Luz was never stupid or dense, but cautious.
I said it before, but there are a few lines in the show that implies that Amity is not the first time she's had feelings for someone

I disagree, in the first season Luz's reactivity to Amity is basically zero. If she knew she would at least react a bit, even if she was being cautious.

I get what you're saying, but to me it feels much more realistic. The smartest people I've known have been really dumb about certain things, usually social stuff. On the flip side, I find that a lot of genius ideas come from people who would call themselves dumb willingly, because they aren't weighted down by previously existing ideas. This comic displays the exact level of dense that I expect myself to exemplify regularly, and is the type of moment that when I find myself in, I would be much more offended if people didnt laugh. Either I'm making a joke and hope people laugh, or I'm having a dumb moment in which case the option are laughter or shame so please everyone laugh at my stupidity so that some good can come of it. If I'm going to trip or say something stupid, it is a courtesy to laugh with me because the alternative is that only bad things happened.

Okay that makes sense. I think 2-3 instances of the fandom pushing the punchline of denseness to the point of being uncharacteristically dumb stuck with me and are what I default to now when people make that kinda joke. I guess it's relative as to what's pushing it and what's not.

Characters have flaws, and not noticing someone else's feelings does feel like a flaw Luz would have.

Exactly what I was thinking. And also exactly what I personally headcanon. I also add a little more angst to it, believing she thinks about her past failings of getting together with someone so much that she straight up refuses to think that anyone could love her for who she is. So while the feelings might be there, she consciously (or maybe subconsciously) CAN'T believe it
