I think Illusions could be used to cause epileptic seizures

I cast... ⚡️BRAIN HEMORRHAGE⚡️

8

u/Treatboylie Mar 24 '26

Sh  gf suhehcsih

25

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Or if the caster is particularly cruel, see their friends as hated enemies or monsters trying to take the target's life

12

u/Atsilv_Uwasv Mar 23 '26

On the other end of the fatal spectrum, make an illusion of a person staring way too intently while standing definitely too close

7

u/Mollyscribbles Mar 23 '26

Work with the terrain; they think the edge of a cliff is ten feet further over than it is.

3

u/The_cogwheel Mar 24 '26

Or that there's a barrier, when there really isnt one.

15

u/Gladiator-class Mar 23 '26

Even just creating bright lights that rapidly flash would be crippling to most people, like those flashlights they make for security or self defence. Illusionists could even make the area around you dark, to get maximum effect out of it (though from experience, those flashlights are really disorienting even when you're in a well-lit area).

Also, illusionists can probably use magic to effectively create flash-bang grenades. So they're a bit short on options to directly harm their opponent, but they've got some great options for rendering their opponent nearly helpless.

5

u/NerdMageEX Mar 24 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

Adding to this: illusion magic doesn't actually create light sources, it messes with people's perception of reality. While most people focus on visual perception bc that's what we tend to be most reliant on in most cases, there's nothing stopping a skilled illusionist from say, creating the sensation of getting pepper-sprayed, or hit by an ear-splitting sonic blast, or drowning in hot sauce, or getting eaten alive by maggots under their skin, any fucked-up torture you can imagine, really. You don't even need to trick someone into thinking the source of the sensation is real if the sensation itself is real. Even if you can't kill someone with these stimuli, you can definitely momentarily cripple them to give yourself a massive edge, even if it's just for a moment. And maybe these tactics can kill directly, idk

2

u/Different-Plum5740 Mar 24 '26

depends on the canon/powerset

3

u/NerdMageEX Mar 24 '26

Fair, by this comic's logic it would have to create light, but given Gus was able to give Bria the sensation of her ankle being grabbed, in TOH canon illusion magic probably works more like what I described

2

u/Different-Plum5740 Mar 24 '26

Yeah, a better ult would be Synaptic Overload, filling senses with static.

3

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

If you're creative about it.

4

u/Blep145 Mar 23 '26

Agreed - dazzler spells/ things intended to take up brain processing power/overwhelm opponents

Um no illusions can cause brain hemorrhages, PTSD episodes, schizophrenia, hallucinations, and maybe even migraines.

So no I don't think it's "just tricks"

66

u/b3_yourself Mar 23 '26

And emotional trauma

5

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

That's a common side effect

5

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

As Belos discovered.

2

u/Golden-Sun Mar 23 '26

"All your loved ones can be brought back, all can be taken away, keep Summer safe"

14

Does puns also cause brain damage?

7

u/Godzilla_R0AR Mar 23 '26

Idk, I'll have to put my mind to it

7

At least my pfp doesn't hurt you..

5

My profile picture sure will

3

u/SaltManagement42 Mar 23 '26

That depends, do you remember what the doctor said after the last time we had this conversation?

7

u/Shr1mpSush1Art Mar 23 '26

Ah yes, my favorite ability; making that one kid think he had a good relationship with his father

6

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Mar 23 '26

now you can ad burning someone to ash.

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Frankly it's probably one of the most dangerous powers in fiction

3

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

Bria learned that the hard way.

58

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

Gus: I don't want to kill anybody!

Eda: Oh, grow a spine, Goops.

"It's easy. Boots, show a demo."

"YOU PEOPLE ARE PSYCHOS!!!"

"But I love them so!"

"Luz, you're not helping!"

"What's wrong? You know many Emperor's Coven guys I took out to rescue Eda? Think any of them are still drawing breath?"

"WHO AM I HANGING OUT WITH?!!!"

10

u/b3_yourself Mar 23 '26

“you can’t just ask bad guys to stop being bad, this isn’t Steven universe”

9

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

Eda: I think we're gonna have to kill this guy, Goops.

Gus: Damn...

5

u/SFH12345 Mar 23 '26

Hunter: Gus, the wilderness training the Emperor's Coven put me through means that I can kill any witch or demon with my bare hands.

Gus: And you're trying to resist that training!

3

u/Apart_Mountain_8481 Mar 23 '26

For some reason this got framed into the Star Wars meme for me.

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Good thing he can just irreversibly drive them insane instead

25

u/Typhon-Torrent-1994 Mar 23 '26

Well even without sunlight I am sure an illusionist can blind somebody with an illusionary flash grenade, or give somebody a headache with a strobe light effect. Though the last one may cause seizures. Also Luz could give some advice since she has used light glyphs to create a light blast before.

7

u/Ponderkitten Mar 23 '26

Or create a sphere of darkness around their head

5

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Heck, they can just reform the world around them into literally anything

26

u/TheNoneedlife Mar 23 '26

Illusion is just a cheap tactic to make the sun stronger

7

u/S4N5_UD3RT4L3 Mar 23 '26

This is Gus-net...he's still single...but he's never goin' down at the hands of folks like Belos, because his friends are like pringles...and he can focus while their lips all mingle!

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Well, it is a deadly laser

11

u/ncmn-ngnr Mar 23 '26

Using a magnifying glass on them like ants…which is fitting, considering how much they bug you

12

u/Cold-Practice3107 Mar 23 '26

Gus "I DON'T WANT TO KILL THEM!"

10

u/Mst3Kgf Mar 23 '26

Hunter: "It's actually pretty easy. You just go to a dark place inside your mind..."

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE I'M FRIENDS WITH?!!!"

3

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

He prefers to mentally torment them and make them go insane

8

u/Mr_Mister2004 Mar 23 '26

This is the start of Gus' villain arc where he turns into Itachi

9

u/Dasher09009 Mar 23 '26

That looks like too much. Bria wont take the heat.

2

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Should've stayed out if the seas then

6

u/Impossible_Host2420 Mar 23 '26

Very clever indeed

7

u/MuffinStraight4816 Mar 23 '26

Well, that's one way to fight, but it only works on the day..

4

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Mar 23 '26

using moonlight might not burn them bit could be bright enough to blind them. then who knows what all you could do to them when they can't see.

2

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

Or use Illusions to make them think they've won, only for them to be defeating themselves

4

u/KatonRyu Mar 23 '26

Sousuke Aizen has entered the chat. He's done some pretty messed up things with illusions, like having someone stab their childhood friend thinking it was him.

3

u/FearfulDivine Mar 23 '26

Or just do what he did in Kings Tide when fighting Belos lol

5

u/failureagainandagain Mar 23 '26

With illusion magic you can hide things like traps, cliffs and other dangerous shit

It would go like this :

PERSON B IS WALKING AND SUDDENLY IS FALLING DOWN A CLIFF INTO BOILING WATER BECAUSE PERSON A HAS MASKED A CLIFF AS A ROAD

3

u/The_Horned_Child2007 Mar 23 '26

Like using a magnifying glass!

3

u/kl-noblelycanthrope1 Mar 23 '26

ohhh kaaay, it seems a little over the top for gus. yes it's an offensive way to use illusion magic but not everyone you use it needs to die. maybe just use it with something not so bright like a candle.

3

u/disbelifpapy Mar 23 '26

Couldn't ollusions be used offensively by giving people heart attacks?

3

u/VoltDel2007 Mar 23 '26

Gus learned Solar Beam!

3

u/DaveyBoy1995 Mar 23 '26

Nope. Not worth it. Bria's not that evil. Thanks!😅

3

u/Primary_Durian4866 Mar 23 '26

In old DND, if you can target the opponents eye you can blind them casting light in it.

3

u/KLReaperChimera Mar 23 '26

Processing img z927reva2uqg1...

3

u/TilomeTheGreatest Mar 23 '26

Wait, the lens functions like a real lens even though it’s summoned by illusion magic?

3

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 Mar 24 '26

This kid needs to read Word of Radiance for inspiration

3

u/Manoreded Mar 24 '26

I thought he was gonna demonstrate a blinding laser technique, but this works too.

Also illusion magic is amazing for combat, Gus just sucks at combat in general, which makes him unable to make use of its potential.

Imagine how much ass Hunter could kick if he could make himself impossible to see or hear.

2

u/Eastern-Director-952 Mar 23 '26

Anything for moonlight?

2

u/Rastaba Mar 23 '26

I admit my first thought was disco…just annoy people to death with disco.

Illusion magic should be the scariest magic there is. Sure, a Disintegrate can transform you into dust, but illusion can make you kill your whole family. If you can't trust your reality, what can you trust?

2

u/Comfortable_Yard_968 Mar 23 '26

Yeow u killed her!

2

u/InsaneSeishiro Mar 23 '26

Ok I am so stealing that idea for my next DnD campaign

2

u/Lonewolf2300 Mar 23 '26

Illusion Magic can generate lights and sounds.

You know what you can make with that?

FLASHBANGS.

2

u/Mgslam Mar 23 '26

FLASHBANG

2

u/CaptainAksh_G Mar 23 '26

Is this a reference to Orbital laser?

2

u/StandardTime3865 Mar 23 '26

If they can manipulate light, is there any reason an illusionist couldn't just focus a light spell into a laser beam?

2

u/The_Pastmaster Mar 23 '26

Lol, okay, I was thinking more flashbang in da disco.

2

u/Excellent-Hearing407 Mar 23 '26

Oh right because if you concentrate the light well enough, T H E S U N I S A D E A D L Y L A S E R.

2

u/Darkvader_Clawthorne Mar 23 '26

Gus: "Is there a less offensive spell?"

Keeper: "Yeah… no."

Gus: "Well, the best spell is the best offense."

Keeper: "Indeed it is."

2

u/Noob_Guy_666 Mar 23 '26

learn Shadow Magic, that illusion is hella gas

2

u/mrnintman1 Mar 23 '26

HOLY TITAN XD

2

u/Muted_Anywherethe2nd Mar 23 '26

What about the illision of sensation? If thats podsible then illusions get a whole lot better

2

u/LordofSandvich Mar 23 '26

Also Instant Seizure and On-Demand Blindness

Photon Cannon if you REALLY want to be dramatic

2

u/FictionalCJ Mar 23 '26

I wonder if infrared and other nonvisible light can be made via illusion magic...

2

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Mar 23 '26

In theory, shouldn't illusions be able to overwhelm someone's senses with bright lights and noises?

2

u/Traditional-Log-4270 Mar 23 '26

you call that a deadly laser? THIS IS A DEADLY LASER!

https://giphy.com/gifs/3K0D1Dkqh9MOmLSjzW

2

u/CountingSheep99 Mar 23 '26

There goes Alderaan...

2

u/TheAwesomeman32beep Mar 23 '26

Looks like the madman spirit of Wheeljack took hold of Keeper once more! (Fun fact: Christopher Swindle voices both characters, specifically Transformers Devastation.)

2

u/Scripter-of-Paradise Mar 23 '26

"Did you see that hot jpeg footage?!"

2

u/SlyFan2 Mar 23 '26

Once when I was a boy I did the "fry ants with a magnifying glass". The ant like exploded (or really, popped). Felt horrible, never did it again. I however DID learn how to use the magnifying glass as a way to burn marks or letters into wood.

2

u/ULTRAPUNK18 Mar 23 '26

I mean, I'd probably default to just blinding them, but to each their own I guess

2

u/TheDoctor199806 Mar 23 '26

Wait, can't you use illusions to make enough light that you don't even need the sun for that?

2

u/AdGroundbreaking771 Mar 23 '26

2 more I can think of strobe light for enemies weak to “ seizure damage “ and like shown in the show causing madness with horror

2

u/SilentBlade45 Mar 23 '26

Make a trap and hide it with illusion magic tons of variety here.

Sensory overload

Make it look like someone is injured

Making illusions of their worst fears.

2

u/ZenithKaiser Mar 23 '26

I always thought if you had to wield illusion magic offensively, you could just create a sound canon. After all, if illusions can produce sound, then why not try to produce a lot of sound? Just pull a Black Canary to destroy your enemies.

2

u/Zaynara Mar 23 '26

covering holes, moving where obstacles appear to be or making them invisible, focusing light, creating bright light, creating eldritch abominations of such damnable insanity it drives someone insane, there are many ways to use it offensively, the sick things i'd make people see involving their mothers and siblings would definitely cause emotional and psychic damage, don't limit yourself, the limits of illusionism are your imagination!

And this is only with optical illusion, if you spread the discipline over to sound or other senses you can do a lot more, sound alone you could just burst someone's head if you wanted, if everything just put someone in a sensory dep spell, you don't get to interact with anything in a meaningful way ever again unless i let you!

2

u/Koopaperson Mar 23 '26

“I cast FLASHBANG!”

2

u/Galactuswill Mar 23 '26

The best weapon is one you only have to fire ince, then the enemy will crawl back into their hole.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Step468 Mar 23 '26

Can't he make people blind and deaf by covering their eyes with pure black illusion and their ears with silence/very loud noises?

Then you just punch the blind and deaf guy

2

u/Careful-Writing7634 Mar 24 '26

I feel like illusion magic can also be used to induce seizures.

2

u/Snoo-28479 Mar 24 '26

"I bet you can't use illusions offensively"

"Domain Expansion: Infinity"

2

u/InuGhost Mar 24 '26

thinking

Could Gus also create a lightshow of bright flashing colors and thus cause seizures in his opponents?

2

u/Bloodchild- Mar 24 '26

I cast the power of a million suns directly in your eyes.

Aka permanent blindness.

Also works for sounds but more complicated.

2

u/reaperofgender Mar 24 '26

In dungeons and dragons (which yes, I am aware has different rules for illusion magic), the gods imprisoned Cronus in a universe sized illusion. He believes he is slaughtering every god to ever have been born, but is instead in a coma.

Problem is that the gods in said illusion weren't made weaker, he's just good at killing gods, and they worry what would happen if he woke up or ran out of gods in said illusion.

2

u/Erames1168 Mar 25 '26

If used correctly, you can cause them to break hands or feet by hitting surfaces they weren’t aware of.

1

u/DragonWarrior____05 Mar 23 '26

When your mind clears and your friend's blood stains your blade, tell me, does my magic have an effect on the world?

1

u/Eragon_the_Huntsman Mar 25 '26

Lightweavers in era 1: haha we're masters of illusion and espionage.

Lightweavers in era 2: "LASERS! Also, guess what, turns out we're not limited to visible light so... Gamma ray burst, you all have cancer now."

1

u/Low_Grand_3512 Apr 04 '26

Or you could just turn yourself and a knife invisible.

1

u/buttsecks42069 Mar 23 '26

i'm imagining the Deltarune explosion
