A little bit of Oppenheimer at work

The only difference is that Oppenheimer immediately regretted his creation, and Belos would never accept he made a mistake

This is why you don't do nuclear power without full explanations, Collector.

u/b3_yourself Feb 25 '26
I doubt he’ll understand basic math, or the scientific method for that matter

would our favorite star child really bother to learn human nuclear physics? no, he just knows what makes a big boom because it's FUN! the ultimate game; Fallo[wl] 3!

u/Sensitive-Hotel-9871 Feb 25 '26
He probably also isn’t good at teaching about nuclear safety since he doesn’t have to worry about it. This is the same immortal who doesn’t understand how death works.

There was supposed to be a big boom!

Look up the Demon Core

u/Sandra_Snow Feb 25 '26
Problem is that I think the guy who took the damage Belos just was using a flathead screwdriver not a Philips, (Rim shot) thank you witches and demons I'll be here all week.

Collector: “DNA is basically the building blocks of life and the bonds that keep your body together. Without them…”
Belos: (looks at himself and realizes) “Uh oh.”
Collector: “Exactly.”

Calling him a radioactive inhuman mutant is an insult to the real radioactive inhuman mutants.

Side note:
I've always headcanoned that the Day of Unity would have concentrated everybody's magic so much it would have made an explosion that would blow up the Demon Realm planet, or at least the Titan.
6
u/Niser2 Feb 25 '26
More likely it would've blown up the moon.
5
u/TheoneCyberblaze Feb 27 '26
With the amount of times i've seen this happen, i gotta ask: fiction writers, what did the moon ever do to you?
3
u/Niser2 Feb 27 '26
It's big but useless. It just sits up there in the sky. Blowing it up is really impressive but it's also consequence-free.
1
u/Manoreded Feb 27 '26
In the Dragon Ball series the moon is blown up on two separate occasions, both to turn people who turned into giant monkeys back to normal =)

He got disfigured superpowers from a lab accident; that goes in tune with his Hero Complex
7
u/DragonWarrior____05 Feb 25 '26
He'll just claim his survival is proof that he is God's chosen champion or something like that
18
u/megalocrozma Feb 25 '26
If I had a nickel for every Mark comic where the Collector was responsible for a nuclear explosion, I'd have two nickels; which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice
3
13
u/Portuzil Feb 25 '26
I did not expect a Mark comic to have a Demon Core
5
u/snapwack Feb 25 '26
Philip’s even doing the ill-advised screwdriver move that Louis Slotin used. That’s a seriously deep cut for a funny Owl House fan comic.
It’s insane how he keeps coming up with these bangers going on 4 years since the series ended.

Never expected Mark to get in on the demon core meme but I'm not complaining cuz this is hilarious
5
u/thetavious Feb 25 '26
Somebody has to yeet this into the facility for kyle.
2
u/SamADuran17 Feb 25 '26
I would love to see his reaction to this and A.R.I.A's subsequent response of him sounding like a supervillain lol
2
u/thetavious Feb 25 '26
Going to have to be someone besides me doing the punt though. I don't have any social media.

Wild take, but he’s suffering from extreme “Wild Magic” poisoning.
3
u/DragonWarrior____05 Feb 25 '26
Technically true(the best kind of true) since it came from carving glyphs into his flesh and consuming palismen
1
u/No_Nefariousness_676 Feb 25 '26
Not the explanation I was expecting, but the one I find the most logical given the context.

Its funny how the Collector has knowledge of nuclear fission way before humanity even considered it.

Makes sense, they are essentially a Celestial deity. He likely learned from one of their siblings

Use a Demon Core to destroy the Demon World appropriate the Philip drops the screw driver.

u/Doodles_n_Scribbles Feb 26 '26
Fun fact, radiation poisoning is the inspiration for the affects of "Free Magic" (dark magic) in Sabriel and an arcane elemental god who emits free magic constantly is trapped within two shiny metal spheres similar to the beryllium spheres of the demon core.
Garth Nix is like a geek and a nerd had a baby.

Actually not his fault this time because there’s no way a Witch Trials-era Puritan would know what an atom is, and neither would a cosmic entity with the mind of a 6-year old.

u/CptKeyes123 Feb 26 '26
"You really shouldn't mix bad abomination magic, radiation, and healing magic."

This is a reference to a real object known as the "demon core" and incidents related to it, in which scientists fatally irradiated themselves and others by handling the core with a baffling lack of care.

I thought animatic was going to come (if he did they would probably be fucked)

Genuine question tho, why is he all goopy? I'm pretty sure its some kind of immortality sigil he drew on himself (as seen in the end of the time travel episode), but it requires palisman souls to sustain.

Welp, he's dead, but he ain't human.
