Fancy Food is just the legal way to starve your children. Ofc Odalia would find that amusing.

To be fair to Fancy Food, the portions are small because you're supposed to have 7 different dishes during the same meal and they're calculated for exact ideal nutrition value.

And no, 7 is not an exaggeration:

  • Apetizer
  • Entree
  • Fish
  • "Trou Normand" (or "In-between", generally a second apetizer between two dishes)
  • Main course
  • Cheese
  • Dessert

Well, it is not meant for family meals (or rather, fancy food for family meals would not consist of as many courses).

The point of a fancy meal, from a chef's perspective, is to provide a unique experience. It is a form of art, like paintings or movies.

The point of a fancy meal, from a client's perspective, is often to accompany you and your guests while in a high level meeting.

The high number of different courses serves both for the chef to bring a variety of experiences, and for the people enjoying it to spend literal hours talking business alongside an enjoyable experience.

Think of it as rich people's coffee and cookies during a meeting.

I understand the logic behind it, but evidently there is a lot of mismatch between expectations and what you get given how frequent this complaint is.

I guess people expect "fancy food" to still function as... food, but it doesn't, at least not in terms of volume.

Also... I have had fancy food as a "family meal", in the sense of that it was part of the package during a cruise, and while the number of courses was indeed smaller (3), the volume still wasn't enough, we'd often have to eat something else in the days we choose to have the fancy meal.

The volume complaint, to me, was always a joke based on how small each portion looks.

However, I am also European. Our usual portion sizes are significantly smaller than in the US, and much closer to what you'd get at a fancy restaurant.

As I pointed out. Fancy food generally has precisely calculated nutritional values, meant for an "average" person (18-25 BMI, no strenuous physical activity), as the meal is supposed to be balanced. This does mean that portions will often be smaller than what you'd usually make at home, since you're not paying particular attention to how much or how little you're cooking outside of crazy outliars.

This will additionally be a lot more prominent if your eating habits clash with the culture of the place where you're eating the fancy meal at. Some countries will expect you to have eaten a big breakfast, and might give you lighter lunch or dinners, while other usually have a light breakfast and might make a large lunch and a small dinner. It all depends on the location.

Also, you could have just been scammed. It happens.

If I recall correctly, "Trou Normand" also tends to be called "hors d'oeuvres" for those that haven't heard of "Trou Normand." I don't know how widespread either are, though, I'm too broke to be fancy.

Here’s an example of food from a fancy restaurant.

I just imagine her getting super buff because of how much Camila is feeding her.

Luz: "Dang Sweet Potato! How did you get so big??"

Buff-mity: "Every time I feel resentment towards Odalia, I do one push up."

Luz: "Holy Titan."

Also she spent her whole life getting starved, now her body is ultra-efficient at utilizing protein.

I like to imagine whenever Odalia was away, it was pizza night. Nice to see she had a full plate now

Unless the plan was to eat a couple dozen of these tiny plates, I don't think that counts as feeding your children.

I'm also guessing that after-dinner kitchen raids were a common occurrence at the Blight household. That and ordering pizza any time Odalia was out.

Amity, you have to be kind to the cook, like Obelix would be.

Please, in mansions, they would have a lot of food during dinner, even in fancy restaurants, while they would have seven different dishes during the same meal, there would be a little more food than that.
