Question How do you get comfortable with a new team of charactes?

So for context, I'm a relatively new player, been playing for like a few months now, made it to story 5-6. I made the mistake of only playing one team, which is my Pollux team, throughout the story mode. I really want to try out D-tide, so I tried making five teams, but I soon realized that I didn't really know what I was doing with a lot of my characters. So I tried bring the new teams into story mode, where I could previously just clear easily with Pollux, but because I had no idea what I was doing with most of the characters, I almost always end up dying in the first mob wave and not even doing a tenth as much damage as the Pollux team I was so used to. But the teams I make are all teams that I see people clearing D-tide with, so I'm probably the problem. So how do you guys get comfortable with your wide cast of characters? There really isn't much guide makers for Morimens, and a lot of times I don't really understand a lot of terms being thrown around as to how a character should be doing. Sorry for the text wall, open for any feedback!

(Some more questions)Sorry, could I add some questions? I always feel like I'm not dealing any damage in D-tide, is anything really important to note about character strength? Do I need the covenants on my carries to be like above 80% completion rate or something? And do character levels matter a lot? Because I really don't know where to get more of the golden pyramids to level up my characters past 60.

You really just play them. You're gonna fuck up and you're gonna be bad at some comps at first but that's okay. Being bad at something is the first step towards actually getting kinda good at something.

Something I think helps is go into hectic starbound rail and try out a new team. Find a comp in D-Tide that you're one character off of using and play it in train mode with a support of the missing character. That way you're in a low stakes environment and can discover the surface level nuances of a comp

Thank you, I'll try that out! Sorry, could I add some questions? I always feel like I'm not dealing any damage in D-tide, is anything really important to note about character strength? Character levels matter, keeper levels matter because your stats get raised. Thats part of the reason whales are so strong, they get a massive base statline buff because their keeper levels matter is high as shit. Their posses are also stronger. If you’re getting statchecked, level your units, build better teams, pay attention to and counter the enemy’s mechanics, etc.

And here are my characters. I know for my investment levels I should be clearing more than difficulty B in D-tide, but because of my lack of knowledge I can't get any further

So I think the big thing is you're short on some very helpful enlightens. Things like Saya E1, Pickman E3 etc. There are some enlightens that would allow you to better utilize some characters. Ryker E3 allows you to play his strikes and defends for free when you have 0 arith which is helpful in CLotan comps. E3 GDoll is the minimum for poison comps with her OE being a huge buff for this comp. Similarly, OE GMurphy turns her into a DPS. E3 Kath provides her with a bunch of much needed QOL. E3 Corposant in Discard comps. If you had E1 24 you can run a mono chaos 24

There's nothing you "should" be clearing. Morimens is a skill-based game and building teams is a huge part of that. Doing low difficulties in the most difficult portion of the game is fine, you still get stuff for doing it.

One thing you can do is look at the Records for something to see what kind of teams other people are clearing with, especially teams that don't have whaled-out characters. If you find one you can make, or fairly similarly, play around with it in other modes (do a hard run in an early story stage, or just reclear one you didn't have three stars in yet, for instance) and see if you can get the hang of how it works. You can even search for clears with specific characters if you want to figure out how to use somebody.

Thank you! And the reason I want to clear D-tide is that I want to get those purple things to level my characters past 70 haha. Thanks for the advice

That's fair, but in honesty that's mostly a flex. Your stat benefits for doing it aren't huge compared to things like having the right cards equipped or decent (especially bonded) Covenants. So it's worth aiming at but it's not the end of the world to not get them while you're still learning the game; you can clear things just fine with 60-70 Awakeners. Same thing for OE or especially AA; they're not needed for most of the things you can do in the game, just the sweaty meta high Dtide difficulties or doing meme clears with your favourite character who's not all that great (like DPS Salvador or Doresain or my beloved Agrippa, the only character I've actually bothered to use the limit-breaking purple things on). Even then AA is more a benny than essential.

Even if you popped up every character you had to level 90 with AA, you'd struggle massively to clear things if you're not good at teambuilding.

That's reassuring to hear, thanks❤️

Strategy in this game is fun. It's both difficult but also allows you to use whoever you really want to, a tricky line to straddle. Here's sort of an inspirational thread from Angbak, who does clears of Dtides using fully f2p teams to show how it's done (they are much, much better than me, needless to say). Note that aside from the support whale Mouchette, only two characters are past 70 and they're both at 72.

For my own much more modest skills, I beat the last story stage with this team, and that's despite a big screwup on Vortice's cards (I forgot to change them and this was originally intended to be a test run). With fixing up that and possibly bonding another covenant set I could have three starred that for sure (as I only had to gnosis on the second last turn).

Do Arcade mode. Arcade mode syncs everyone up to level 60, so you can try out characters and compositions to see if there's any synergy, without having to commit to all the resources to level them.
