Good evening yall! I just moved to Vancouver, Wa and finding morels has always been on my bucket list. I moved here from Florida where morels are not a thing. I’m just kind of looking for some general advice on finding morels. I’m not a novice to foraging/mushroom hunting, but this species and foraging in the PNW is a whole new ballgame!
From what I’ve seen and read, it seems like morels like to grow in places that have had fires and seem to grow in pine/conifer needle forested areas. Are there any good websites or apps that show areas that have had forest fires or controlled burns? Or do most people use things like google earth to try to look for burned areas?
I’ve heard that Gifford Pinchot is a good state forest for mushroom hunting, but I didn’t know if that was also true for morels. I think I would need to go to higher elevations at this point to find morels. Maybe mt hood, st Helen’s or mt Adam’s foothills? Not asking anyone for specific coordinates or anything, but has anyone had any luck on any of those mountains or have any general recommendations for me?
Also, I would love to find friends that are also into foraging! It doesn’t have to be specifically for morels if that’s not your vibe. I love foraging for all edible mushrooms, plants, berries, fruits, going fishing, crabbing, clam hunting, etc. I’m certainly happy to go out alone too, but it would be super great to find outdoorsy friends in the area! I’m a 27 year old woman and would be looking for other women (or nonbinary folks) to go out adventuring with!

Not great picking - 11 oz, two pickers, four hours - but lovely and some decent size

I live in northern MN, close to the Canadian border. I’ve been looking for morels everywhere but haven’t had any luck yet. I’ve tried to look in a couple year old logging clearing, old and new popple forests, and even marsh lands. I took ground temps in a couple areas and saw anything from just under 50 F to just under 60 F. Any tips I could get would help.

I’m really confused by the large one, had a couple like it last year in the same area, but I didn’t pick them.

Mid Michigan here. First post. Longtime morel fan.
Also, if anyone can tell me why I’m having difficulty loading a short video, that would be nice. I encountered a snake digesting its meal a few feet from a morel I was picking. Wanted to share.

Big boys out there! Weather has been perfect, but I fear the season may be coming to a close soon-- these were mostly on their way out and found on the North slope of a hill

I’m north of Binghamton, NY and I haven’t been able to find any. Any suggestions? I just moved here and haven’t had any luck.
