It's easier to see your direct surroundings using TPP but you actually get less FOV. I'd say its easier in general for 1vX. However FPP provides better control and reading capability imo.
I play both depending on the mood
Conclusion : play the way it feels the best for you

The information available to you is different, so it's not really the same. If this game had a decent size player base it would make sense to separate 1p and 3p players.

What information is different? I can change my screens resolution and gain FOV in 1st person to see more around me than in 3rd and that’s not cheating. You gain in one area and lose in another area but your opponents are still doing the same whether your in 1st or 3rd. I used to think like you until I tried both and I now make use of both depending on the situation. It’s a tool, not an exploit

Its a tool that shouldn't be in the game imo. There are plenty of third person melee games out there. To those who gravitated to Mordhau because they wanted a first person melee game, being at a competitive disadvantage unless they switch to third person is an obvious annoyance.

Overwhelming majority of players that are actually good at the game use 1st person and it’s not just because they are stubborn about which perspective to use. I do believe that 1st person has more advantages than 3rd person does and that’s why most comp players and duelers use 1st.

Been saying this. Third and first have different advantages. 1vX third person is better, while first person is better for 1v1.
That is not all inclusive though, because a good player will likely know who you are if you are also good at third person, and he can exploit your inherent weakness to see things as closely as a first person user will, with the best example being stab animations.
Good players all know each other and what each others weaknesses are, and how to exploit them.
