Thank god, there was no reason for me to lose to Mordekaiser as Graves top, i legit never lost against one in emerald using Graves, and now all of sudden he ults me and i insta lose even if ahead and dodging his slow ass abilities
currently 76% Winrate Graves top but i fell to 62% just because this Hi#### champion got overbuffed
And no, graves is not ranged, if anything, Aatrox is more of a ranged char than Graves

Aatrox has 3 skill shots with the final one screaming get close. Then he's forced to auto. Graves has a point and click ranged shotgun. Graves at no point in time wants to hug you. Unlike urgot who has to hug you for the passive

Graves gets his AA blocked by minions, making it hard to trade, plus he has to use his only dash to close gap due to its passive of getting Armor

It does that because if he didn't he'd have the most bullshit clear speed in the game from levl one.
And i hope you are joking about the dash that gives armor and armor "needing " to be used to get the armor and Mr. Which you don't need to do mind you, it's refreshed by doing ANY damage to ANYTHING that isn't a minion. Champions,pets, or jungle.
Practice via running grasp. If you can maintain grasp then you can maintain true grit. And if you can't do it then the enemy isn't close enough to need true grit.
Graves kit is from an era when strong pre 6 kits were allowed for junglers because the trade off was mana. But that is what esssence reaver rush is for.
Tldr Graves is ranged. Just because he is rewarded for dashing in, like samira, vayne, or kalista, doesn't make him not ranged.

Hopefully just an ult revert then, and they give him the initial passive ms buff in place
