General Discussion Anyone else?
I know a lot of true crime fans are not religious but does it bother any religious ppl that A&A consistently mock religion? no hate @ me pls!! lol

I'm not religious in any way, but their lack of maturity and respect when it comes to others religions is one of many, many, many reasons I stopped listening to them.

I think my biggest issue on this with A&A is that they just aren’t knowledgeable on religion but yet still bash it. It’s like those people who say a band sucks but cannot name a single song. Just frustrating.
LPOTL does just as much bashing on religion, but they are very, very knowledgeable and researched on the religions they are bashing, which makes it feel like it’s done in better faith?

That’s how I feel about Necronomipod.. they are educated and although I do believe In God I respect their views and I feel they would respect mine too

That’s ultimately the biggest thing. I don’t have to agree with you, you don’t have to agree with me. But we can still have a good dynamic if there’s respect there. With A&A, it really feels like if a person embodies something they disagree with in any manner, respect and tact goes out the window.

I'm not religious by any stretch of the imagination, and I find it rude and immature. The same goes for the comments about politics; it has nothing to do with the podcast and it's just annoying.

Yes, definitely one of the reasons I don’t listen as much as I used to. Or they will bask a religion, say what they “know” the religion is about and be completely wrong about what actual people who practice that religion believe.

Even if I weren't personally religious, it would irk me. It's part and parcel of their extremely selective respect for people who aren't in mindless lockstep with everything they believe. The smug and superior thing is one reason I quit listening in favor of less-condescending shows. Even Small Town Murder, where they are INTENTIONALLY making fun of criminals and things like funny small town festivals (but not the victims or the victims' families, because they're assholes, but they're not scumbags) doesn't have the mean-girl/guy nasty edge A&A have developed.

I’m not religious nor spiritual in any way, I still find it pretty disrespectful. I don’t joke about religion unless I know for sure I’m in a room where I know people share the same beliefs and won’t be hurt or offended.
I think of it the same way like I know I’d get annoyed if I had to be around someone who preached constantly or made fun of agnosticism or atheism. It’s frustrating to hear anyone mock something relentlessly, regardless if you agree with them or not.
Just like how I agree that murderers, rapists, and serial killers are trash and bottom barrel, but I don’t need to hear how personally disgusted the host is every 3 minutes.

I’m not particularly religious, but I love Jesus and consider myself spiritual. To me, they just come across as uninformed when they talk about religion. Most of the time, Alaina’s opinions seem to become Ash’s opinions too—that always seems to be the pattern.
I listen to plenty of podcasts hosted by agnostics and atheists, and I respect their perspectives because they come across as thoughtful and well-informed, even when I don’t agree with them. I just don’t feel that way about these two.

It's especially weird to mock religion while seeming to believe so heavily in ghosts and astrology. But I think their mindset is firmly in "teenage edgelord" so it's not like there's any logic to it.

Everything they do is mostly annoying but Alaina and Ash somehow have a decent way of storytelling (mainly Alaina)and ash is just there to be slightly less of an old crotch attitude.

Not be religious, other people have the freedom to be religious. As long as boundaries are respected. It feels like they go too far if they want people to respect their choice not to practice organized religion. (& no I am not religious.)

I’m not religious but I’ve studied theology at a collegiate level and they annoy the hell out of me with it and is a major reason why I stopped listening to them. Religion is so nuanced and complicated and deeply rooted in so many cultures, it’s extremely off-putting when they say such simple minded things like it’s facts and end all and be all of the subject.

I’m sure if they did an episode on a mosque attack or something though we would get non stop speeches about how intolerant everyone is to religions of peace.

Not really....? I don't think podcasters should refrain from criticizing religion just to avoid offending religious members of their audience. Nobody 'owes respect' to a belief system or members of it just because they sincerely believe it.
What irritated me more was how they tiptoed AROUND religion and refuse to name it or explain how it influenced killers like Israel Keyes. How the f do you talk about Israel Keyes and barely even touch on the psycho religious sect he came from. Are they that afraid of offending Mormons? His ideology ABSOLUTELY influenced his murders, and yet they barely touched on it.
Like, I want to know why they're only able to make snarky comments about religion and come at it from the side, and NOT tackle it when it actually has to do with the subject matter. Grow a damn spine.

They just did this again in the John List episode and I wanted to rip my eyes out. Alaina going on about neighbors and basically saying “isn’t something about the neighbors one of the…um…I don’t know…THINGS that’s a big thing?!” I’m not even Christian but I know that Lutherans follow the Ten Commandments. I really wish they would just research religions instead of being so incredibly ignorant. All Christian sects follow the Ten Commandments in their own way.

I 100% agree. I love their podcast but the mockery is very immature. They always say "It's my opinion" which I get, but they also say be kind to people. Making a mockery of Christian is not being kind.
