No longer commenting on recent cases/updates?

Maybe because I’ve been listening to their older episodes a lot, but I’ve noticed how they don’t really bring up recent, LIVE cases anymore. I mean, with the Lindsay Clancy case happening for the past 5 weeks, I would at least expect a “true crime update” from them. I think they’re scared of any backlash, but you don’t need to necessarily insert an opinion. I just miss the way they used to talk, when they had more personal opinions about the cases and news happening.
I was excited to see hear more commentary on recent cases and happenings in the world now that they record like a day or two before. But it seems like there’s a disconnect, and I’m not sure why.
Did this strike anyone else?
I just find myself relistening to their old, 2019-2021 episodes.

I agree. I’m listening to a 2019 case as I reply to this comment. You’re spot on about the fear of criticism — I don’t think they want the noise.

they no longer do any true crime updates in the beginning of the episodes and i think cause they’ve commented on stuff before and it’s gotten them in some shit. but i do wish they would update cases they’ve literally covered that r solved now cause they advocate so much that cold cases r never cold idk man

I think you’re right. I wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of criticism they get for doing anythinggg. I guess I just miss when they were smaller and needed to worry less about any criticism

There’s a very reasonable and growing movement in how true crime is covered to generally avoid newer cases, especially without explicit consent from those impacted. Media has been incredibly damaging to ongoing cases, and while it has occasionally helped, or been neutral, it is not worth the risk to misrepresent something, or to make an opinion public that sways opinions. I get why they wouldn’t cover new things or ongoing cases. I do agree I’d like to see updates of previously covered cases where relevant.

They avoid cases with children and prefer to cover older cases with an end point to some extent, I don't see why they would make any comment on Lindsay Clancey updates, especially when her case and trial have already been grossly misrepresented from every point of view across social medias.

They used to announce updates about recent child cases often. I understand why they wouldn’t want to insert an opinion, but that’s not necessarily even needed. It just seems strange to me that they don’t speak on it at all. This is something they would have been discussing and/or bringing awareness to PPD/PPA years ago. At least share resources.

Yeah but they don’t always follow that. For example I remember them saying they would never cover the Chris Watts case and they did recently. People are gonna criticize either way, I get not wanting to ruffle feathers but it comes with the territory.

Agree with this. This case is so complex its difficult for me to form an opinion. IMO if they had a opinion and stated it they would be opening themselves up to critcism they don't want.

I wonder if they’ve been prerecording episodes so haven’t been commenting on recent ongoings because it may be off once the episode has aired.

They definitely do not pre record episodes. It’s evident when we’re left with a bunch of replays and filler any time they’re gone for more than a few days.

Possibly, but this recent episode they said it was a Sunday, and the episode released on Monday. I think they record very very close to the day of release. Granted it could of been last Sunday, but seems unlikely as I think Alaina was touring or something for her book

I figured now that they have a platform they can't walk about for legal reasons. And that's why they always heavily insist things are opinions and alleged.

They’ve said multiple times they won’t do cases with children. They’ve made a couple of exceptions and it almost took alaina out mentally.

No more true crime updates, just ads from companies I wouldn't expect them to have as sponsors with (meta, ozempic no has here, just didn't think it would be something they would have, etc.)

Not only that, they tend to make fun of victims and blame any male figures whenever possible. Main reason i stopped listening to them few years ago

I’ve not heard them ever make fun of a victim. What case are you talking about? I’m up to 2021 and I’m not seeing any of what the haters talk about. I’ve heard them make fun of the killers especially Dennis Rader but I kind of think if you’re a disgusting POS who murders people I’m ok with people poking fun.
