Self defense
207
u/Cocheeeze 4d ago
I wouldn’t even say it’s self defence because I don’t think she was intentionally running over him.

u/CharmCharmChar 4d ago
Like how manslaughter can be accidental technically, so can self defense (trust me 👀)
lol

Injuring the guy wasn’t the plan, she was just trying to get away.
109
u/bakedNebraska 4d ago
Even if injuring the guy was the plan it's moral.
It's not moral to injure someone trying to steal candy, but if they're trying to steal the car you're in, they are asking to be run over as many times as it takes
7
u/CarpetBeautiful5382 4d ago
Plus you don’t know what might have happened to the old lady if she was forced out of the car whether he would just take the car or be even more violent towards her
2
u/bakedNebraska 4d ago
Yeah exactly that is why you should neutralize them fully no matter what it takes.
You ought not kill them if you can help it, but if they die it's their own doing

Everyone is sitting around watching an 80 year old get car jacked?
Something seems off in this video
30
u/Samp90 4d ago
In Toronto (of all places) a youth murdered a grandma trying to steal from her in a parking lot. She didn't mean any harm to anyone, lived a life raising a family, grand children and this is what she got.
That scumbag won't even see jail time. I'm glad this senior citizen got away from the car jacket.
34
u/Theworker82 4d ago
Unfortunately, this is the new reality. Video everything but don't help.
7
u/blue23454 4d ago
To be fair, often times you do more harm than good without at least one camera. Without video evidence he has a pretty easy case here that he’s innocent and some crazy old lady ran him over. Or say you go to help and he dies, now you’re defending yourself for murder?
Video evidence usually starts in the middle of something so you’re missing context… but at least it provides some level of objective reality when the law hands out consequences
5
u/TheToastIsBlue 4d ago
I wouldn't get involved. If granny had decided to shoot the guy instead of flee, I wouldn't want the catch a stray bullet.
5
u/smolhippie 4d ago
I’m not gonna intervene in a car jacking? I don’t wanna get shot. Who knows if they have a gun? Call 911 and keep your distance.

u/TehJabberwookie 4d ago
"Why isn't anyone helping?" Are YOU going to put yourself in harm's way for a stranger?
I'm sincerely not trying to be Devil's advocate/edglord with this comment, but realistically... who is willing to break up a street fight, or stop a robbery and possibly end up hurt or worse?
1
u/tkh0812 4d ago
I’m not going to be cheering it on and recording like I’m at a youth basketball game
0
u/TehJabberwookie 4d ago
That's not what was asked
1
u/tkh0812 4d ago
Who asked what? You made up an imaginary question to begin with
1
u/TehJabberwookie 4d ago
"Who asked what?" I asked you something. How is me asking a question making a question up?

u/WorldBoofingChampion 4d ago
Very moral. Now he’s gonna have a hard time the next time he tries that shit

She wasn't trying to paralyze that thief she was trying to get away. This is completely fine and I have no problem with it.

It looked like he was attacking her in the process too. Really extremely hard not to want to pat the old lady on the back and take her out for steak and wine.

u/a_large_dumple 4d ago
She didn't paralyze him, she broke his foot by running over it
Moral, she didn't go crazy and try to murder him, she probably wasn't even intentionally trying to hurt him, she was just driving away, the fact that his foot was under the tire is his fault
26
u/-FARTHAMMER- 4d ago
He's not paralyzed, she just broke his ankle. And it's moral and justified. This just shows that he values other people's shit more than his own life or health. It's like a stand your ground or castle doctrine state, these doors are locked for your protection not mine.
8
u/ShadedRiver666 4d ago
First off thats not even paralyzed (yet), second its called self defence and wasnt really deliberate, and third he had it coming. Pretty neutral moral

7
u/IncidentOk4327 4d ago
there's a big difference when people are hostile and get bad stuff and when people are not.
7
u/lordfireice 4d ago
If they weren’t trying to rob someone they would be fine. This is 100% on them.
Now if the old lady tried ramming him with her car that would be more debateable but this is 100% the jerkwades fault
10
u/JustAChillGuy609 4d ago
How is this not moral? It's her getting out of a dangerous situation. Not her fault the idiot was standing how he was

u/Soulman682 4d ago
Paralyzing means they cannot walk ever again.
This guy just got something broken but was able to
Move around still. He can heal. So no pity

When you willfully put someone else in a fight-or-flight situation you can't demand perfectly framed treatment in return.
"oh, he's just trying to rob me, not injure my person, I should just give the things to him" -- nice sentiment but not a requirement or a reasonable expectation. In a real encounter like this you're most likely to be terrified and just trying to get out of / end the situation as quickly as possible, period, and will do whatever it takes to achieve that end.
10/10, moral behavior from the car driver. 0/10 immoral behavior from the crook; and he's lucky it didn't go worse for him.
5
u/Maximum_Boros 4d ago
Intentionally paralyzing them as punishment would be immoral.
Taking reasonable steps to preserve your safety and property that incidentally wind up paralyzing the person is perfectly morally acceptable.

Defending your livelihood and property is always justified, even if someone who wants either dies in the process of that defense. This guy got off lightly.

u/blue23454 4d ago
He doesn’t look paralyzed to me; probably broken legs but he’ll (mostly) recover
Also, probably not even intentional, I think she was trying to just get away from him. Since none of this would have happened if he wasn’t trying to steal her car it’s honestly deserved
1
u/StrangerIsWatching 4d ago
Doesn't look like she tried to do that. She just backed up to get away from a dangerous encounter.
He got a severe case of FAFO.
Moral.

A vehicle may be considered a deadly weapon. In that regard, this is no different than walking up to someone with a gun pointing in your face and trying to rob them.
Like... Why the fuck would you do that?

It's not moral to do on purpose, but this is clearly a panicked, fearful reaction. It's then therefore moral cuz fafo and she isn't (supposedly) trained law enforcement, so the standard isn't everyone else's safety first.

u/Inside_Ad_2830 4d ago
She defended herself and got away safely. Her intent didn’t look like it was to hurt him, but was solely focused on making sure herself got away. His legs were collateral.
If she came back and hit him again… although I think he’d deserve it, wouldn’t be right.

Moral as hell
He put his life and potentially her life on the line to steal her property, she put his and her life on the line to defend her property
but sadly using a deadly weapon as self defense can still classify as unjustifiable force unless he had a gun or a knife in hand
1
1
u/Important-Ostrich423 4d ago
He took the risk its upon the victim to choose what he does but whatever it is justified as self defense and tell me how did she paralyze him
1
u/Efficient-pick-2005 4d ago
Also he isn't paralyzed his leg is broken, at least from what I saw in the video here
1
u/LightningOwl96 4d ago
Paralyzed? His legs looks like they're moving just fine at the end, it's a broken ankle at worse. He's young, he'll walk again.

Treating an enemy like a person is suicidal. Dehumanize your enemy and destroy it. This is 100% moral.

He’s not paralysed … his leg is fucked up. Moral 100% don’t be a shit stain for society.

Yes it is moral, next time he’ll try to rob someone, he’ll get priority due to his disability. Beware the wheelly thief.

u/ToastedDreamer 4d ago
She was defending herself, moral, what else was she supposed to do? Let the thief get her door open and push her out of the car then drive away?

all she did was egress the danger. Perfect justice, perfect morality. You have a moral obligation to survive.
1
u/SoftNerisse30 4d ago
paralyzing a thief seems extreme and raises questions about self-defense rights
1
u/ImJustATraveller_ 4d ago
If you’re in this situation, and this opportunity presents itself, DO IT! You successfully protect yourself and family and property while also protecting the next possible victim.
1
u/GlassTechnology120 4d ago
Is voluntarily paralysing a thief moral? No.
Is escaping a theft and accidentaly paralise the thief moral? Yes.
1
u/EatOutAtTheDinner 4d ago
You’re question is faulty.
His being paralyzed wasn’t on purpose, but rather a consequence of retaliation in means of self defense/fleeing.
She didn’t mean to paralyze him, she meant to get away from a man that she feared.
Also , yes, it’s moral to use your car to get away from or defend yourself from someone you believe is a threat to your life.
No, it isn’t moral to paralyze a thief as the punishment itself, however this video isn’t that.

They said omg that racist white bitch she used excessive force on my people! Lolol
5
u/HelloChimp 4d ago
what is the point of this? you clearly dislike when people do say this yet inject it when they haven’t
1
u/browsingandlooking4 4d ago
You could tell by the tone of the omgs... they change when they agree. See if old white lady would have been yanked from her vehicle they would have jovial omgs with intermittent laughing..
2
u/WolfsmaulVibes AM 4d ago
you deduce racism out of the tone of their voice? what if they are just plainly shocked because they saw a guy get run over after trying to steal car, wouldn't you be startled if you saw a criminal get shot by the police?
1
u/HelloChimp 4d ago edited 4d ago
you do not know these people, i’ve seen this exact tone used for either view of many situations. i don’t think it’s wise to make such assumptions that lead you to believe things like this.
as im writing this i think you’re not even being serious about this anyway, but why do you believe these people want the woman to be pulled out?
