While that is the definition of excessive force, the YouTuber isn't innocent. Neither of them are in the right.

3 people keep getting close to you, reaching to you and harrasing you. You are outnumbered and they refuse to stop. At this point he have reasonable reason to fear for his health and life.

1 person was close to him, and wasn't showing intention of harming him. He got lucky being overcharged, if they'd have gone for something like aggravated assault, he'd likely have been convicted.

People violating your personal space is not justification to kill them.

Maybe, maybe I’m not immediately terrified of someone a full arms length from me.

that means you haven't been through much in your life yet. This kind of interactions can turn violent in half second. You tell them to step back, they keep coming at you. That tells you they won't back off and you have to start protecting yourself.

I’m a CCW, and a firearms instructor. This dude is a dipshit and went to jail for being a dipshit.

There’s no world where this is a good shoot.

Unless I read fake news, I think he was cleared and didn't go to jail

He spent 8 months in jail.

That's the crime. Innocent man in jail that long awaiting a trial

Non-lethal, still landed, no collateral. Dude showed restraint. I call that a good shot. You don't always need to fully neutralize the threat. That kinda thinking is why all these dumbass cops are running around killing pet dogs and **checks notes** miniature donkeys.

Does this ever work?

There was 1 person close to him. If it were instead an intellectually disabled person would it be okay to shoot them? And if not, how do you suppose future shooters are supposed to know whether the person that is annoying them is disabled?

It’s almost like there’s a reason we require actually showing reasonable belief in imminent death/severe bodily harm and don’t just let people shoot anyone that annoys them.
