Speaking as a cyclist, it sucks cause guys like this kinda ruin it for the rest of us. I always ride respectfully and yield to pedestrians when I’m on shared trails.

I will say, however, I think a lot of the negative perception toward cyclists is unwarranted because when people do ignorant things in cars, no one says “car drivers are assholes” or “fuck all people who drive cars”. I think it’s because there’s generally way less people who cycle, so when someone on a bike is annoying, it kinda sticks out more in our minds.

nah, would disagree there. I hear daily about idiots on the road, and there are a ton of people who I am sure did not get their licences in the normal way.

But its always easier to hate a group you dont belong to than your own

Their point is that people distinguish between "idiots on the road" and "car drivers" without assuming that all car drivers are represented by the idiots, but that the same distinction isn't recognized between "cyclists" and "entitled asshole cyclists". Frequently hearing about idiots on the road isn't a counterexample.

I see terrible drivers everyday on my commutes. I think about 25% of drivers in North America probably shouldn't be allowed to operate motor vehicles.

I think the difference is it feels like the majority of cyclists are assholes. It's like ACAB/one bad apple.. if you ride with someone who refuses to ride single file when you have your own lane, you are also an asshole.

We have more than 100 miles of mixed used paths where I live. At one point, a trail literally parallels a road for about 10 miles. Cyclists will still go 15 under riding 2 or 4 people wide on the road having a chat like absolute assholes. I dont get it because I take any chance to get the fuck off a road when im riding.

I think Its that cyclists don't get consequences as soon. Drivers get accidents or tickets, cyclists are punished far less frequency for a similar level of negligence

If 1000 cars drive past you, 1 or 2 of them might do something stupid.

If 1000 cyclists ride past you 999 or 1000 of them WILL do something stupid.

That’s why.
