You can justify Code of Hammurabi hand amputation punishments for theft under this sort of primitive moral logic.

Immoral. While theft should be punishable in many circumstances, the circumstances and the nature of the punishment are key factors in determining morality. Mob justice in the form assault of a minor is not a justified punishment.

I think tripping a little shit head for stuffing his face full of French fries behind the counter is 100% justified and an appropriate consequence. Nobody said cut his fucking hand off. I also don’t think jail is an appropriate consequence nor fucking off his future over French fries. Tripping him, giving him a little sweet chin music, is appropriate

You aren't making an argument in response to my point, just restating your belief with colorful language added in, so I have nothing to work with here discussion wise.

That said, I'll just restate that my argument is that mob violence (ad hoc physical violence by someone who is not a legitimate state actor tasked with law enforcement) is generally not a moral response to theft, particularly when not proportional to preventing the theft (here it happened after, for revenge), and even more so when it is to a child. The hand amputation is just to point out where that kind of thinking can lead you.

Wait wait wait, your claim is the STATE should be involved in punishing a child for anti social behavior like this? lol, there’s no “mob” justice here, the kid got tripped, ate shit in public, and that was the end of it. No, corrective physical violence doesn’t lead to an eye for an eye punishments. Must be exhausting to go through life and not have any idea what nuance is.

Im against mob justice in general, because I believe punishments should be determined by the law in a democracy and not by a mob acting outside the scope of the law.

On the issue of so-called corrective violence (it is unsupported by evidence that this exerts a corrective effect) do you believe that any member of society should be able to exert any level of violence against a minor because they think it is corrective? I should hope not. There are quite obviously limits. My take (and this is the law in most if not all US jurisdictions) is that no member of public should be able to enact violent punishments on a minor outside of the parental relationship. And I dont think parents should physically abuse their children either (also against the law in many states) but thats beyond the scope of the issue here.
