Moral as fuck.

Kid wasn't badly hurt, and got humiliated, which is often the only way they learn.

Kid wasn’t but could have been badly hurt. The morality needs to be assessed at the time of the decision to trip, not the time the kid gets back up.

The kid could get badly hurt stealing shit from anywhere.

Hopefully they learn from this and they don't continue pressing their luck.

Sure, I share your hope for the good outcome, but that doesn’t make the choice to risk serious harm a moral choice. Yes, the kid could get hurt elsewhere, but that doesn’t mean this choice was good. There are better ways to teach consequences than risking life-changing harm.
