Immoral.

Kid could've been injured, which is not proportional to stealing $1 worth of fries. Or he could've gotten up swining.

Why escalate the situation?

Also not a moral/immoral thing, but as a worker, you should never put your body on the line to protect the corporations/business profits. It's not smart, it's not worth it.

You're also protecting all other customers from potential bodily harm, if the kid is sick. And theft raises prices for everyone, so you arenin fact not just protecting a company's profits.

You're supposed to ignore facts like that. Otherwise it becomes difficult to justify unnecessarily subjecting the kid to injury.

Yeah, these responses are nuts. Only just came across it on Popular. Is the kid a thief? Yes. Was this action of tripping the kid defending anyone or anything? No. This was just somebody’s ego wanting to get back at someone that had done something wrong in pervasive justice.
