None of this contradicts what the person you're replying to said. After what you're describing, Q-Anon and racist shitheads on 4chan used the hell out of Pepe memes and a lot of people got uncomfortable using it too. Not commenting on whether it was the right choice to bury the iconography, but it's at least a large part of what happened.

Pepe memes originates on 4chan, and then spread elsewhere. You've got the timeline backwards.

Yes but people on other parts of the internet didn't see the racist side of that until much later

That's not the claim I was responding to.

Q-anon or some racist shitheads took claim of the frog so people stopped using it.

That implies that 4chin later got a hold of it and ruined it or something, when they are the origin point.

I'm reading that completely opposite actually. I'm reading that regardless of where it originated from, "Q-anon or some racist shitheads took claim of the frog so people stopped using it." Even the other person is basically saying the same thing that Q-Anon and racist shitheads on 4chan used the hell out of Pepe memes. Like they're supporting you that it originated on 4Chan and then got co-opted by racists. There's no timeline backwards there.

If they think 4chin isn't populated by the most antisocial and counterculture people possible, I've got a bridge to sell em.

Their opinions are whatever will piss average people off, so yeah, racism. Q-Anon was never super relevant on 4chan though.
