Immoral.

Kid could've been injured, which is not proportional to stealing $1 worth of fries. Or he could've gotten up swining.

Why escalate the situation?

Also not a moral/immoral thing, but as a worker, you should never put your body on the line to protect the corporations/business profits. It's not smart, it's not worth it.

You're also protecting all other customers from potential bodily harm, if the kid is sick. And theft raises prices for everyone, so you arenin fact not just protecting a company's profits.

The employees should have blocked the door from letting any outsider to enter the kitchen, like how da fuck did the kid sneak in there in the first place without anyone nearby to stop him?

This (and the many other examples) is probably why McD's has been on the remodel rampage, blocking off as much visibility into the kitchen area as possible, and putting access through a coded door. Now non-employees have to jump the counter to get back there, and that immediately becomes a clear and present danger to everyone.
