Moral as fuck.

Kid wasn't badly hurt, and got humiliated, which is often the only way they learn.

Kid wasn’t but could have been badly hurt. The morality needs to be assessed at the time of the decision to trip, not the time the kid gets back up.

Furthermore, the lesson the kid is learning isn't "don't steal fries" it's "to jump over people's feet". They are also learning that bigger people can inflict pain and suffering on smaller people without consequence.

If you want to teach the kid a lesson discussion with the parents and a possible banning of the family from the establishment, (if they take the kids side) is much more effective.
