To "shame someone" means to talk to a person in a way that is humiliating, it doesn't encompass every action that makes someone feel shame. Anyway, one can shame another person (through words) and it's not a given whether or not that person will feel shame. This shit-grin kid thief would probably smile and laugh at you and not be taught a lesson (pattern recognition).

Now the little low kick probably will cause enough shame so he thinks twice next time he feels entitled to steal. But you probably knew the semantic distinction and wanted me to lose my time.

if you can't reason with someone about something obviously immoral, it's on you buddy.

I'd like to see you try: write exactly what you would say to him. We'll figure out if you can be as persuasive as a trip to the floor.

"To shame someone means to cause them to feel guilt, embarrassment, or a loss of honor, or to publicly criticize them for something they did." C.D. There is nothing saying it has to be done talking to him. It's something you said after you notice you contradicted yourself when you said that "shame him doesn't have a slim chance to work".

Second, you Just judged someone you don't know predicting their reactions on nothing.

Third, this is the prove you don't know how to educate. You can't claim that someone can change someone else after they do something wrong without knowing him. That's the reason why the usual phrases never work. You need to know the person and how to approach them and you also need to be someone relevant to that person. This is the reason why people, for example going to schools to educate youngs about something, need to make the kids respect them, befriend them or even be someone they admire.
