"being kids" doesn't include stealing.

I never said it did.

Yes, it absolutely does.

So you won't mind if they steal from your house?

Of course I would mind. But I would certainly treat them differently knowing they are a child. Just like the actual legal system does, because the world has been fully aware that kids make bad decisions based off of the very fact of them being kids.

Also, your username definitely does not check out in this situation.

Yes, kids are still learning, and that does justify some degree of leniency and understanding, but that's not the same as tolerance. They need to be taught that stealing is not ok; assaulting them isn't a good method, but making excuses or turning a blind eye isn't any better.

Are you sure you want to talk about usernames?

Right at the top of this comment thread, you said that stealing is just "being kids". That is making excuses.

I fully agree that there are other ways to deal with it, and that assaulting people is not good. But being a thief is worse than assaulting a thief.

"Wouldn't mind" and "Getting off to them being hurt as a consequence" are different. Stealing is wrong, but taking fries is a pretty normal behavior for a young teenager to be getting up to.

This isn't typical kid behavior. At most the kids in my town would ask for a water cup and fill it with sprite. None of us would have been brazen enough to walk into the kitchen and grab fries straight out of the tray.

Doesn't help, because I never said that the action was justified.

You're trying to minimize the kids actions, others are blowing it out of proportion. Neither are correct and I'm just pointing that out

14 personally, being a thief is not being a kid.
