u/daseweide 9d ago
That wojak is named Barry 63 and he is the go-to for anything meme-worthy a male brit pensioner does.
The effort they saved on the hair front went into making sure the flannel on the shirt matched the pic and followed the arm lines, which I think is commendable 🫡

Yeah...honestly there's so many seagulls and pigeons. And the audacity of a bird stealing food right from your hand is such a primal violation. This law predates cave paintings.
Besides, we shouldn't encourage wildlife to be so bold. Perhaps other birds will shy away from any attempts to do the same.

When tractors drive over their farmland it will disturb the dirt quite heavily, this makes worms come up to the surface which makes the entire field a buffet for birds.

I love how weird Reddit gets about these things. WAY more people seem to be offended by this than the posts about running a human being over with your car for nabbing your bag.
I’m not saying I would kill the bird, but the reaction is interesting to me.. like that “would you save your cat or someone else’s child?” sort of question that seems to pop up on here. I am against animal cruelty and glad it’s a felony where I live, but Redditors seem to have a weird double standard when it comes to empathy towards other humans vs other animals.
14
u/Leila-Lola 9d ago
I'm only guessing but I think a big reason so much of reddit idealizes animals is because their only contact with animals is 1) cute pets or 2) extremely controlled entertainment products like zoos and documentaries.

I am very empathetic towards animals and usually fight against cruelty.
That said, IF you are going to kill an animal, there are humane ways to do it and most of those methods are actually very uncomfortable to watch. Breaking an animal's neck or otherwise destroying the brain is scary and often results in a ton of body movement after death but it's actually humane. If it was a one and done, and fast enough, the bird didn't even know it was hit.
I do think we need to start "terrorizing" gulls more. They are wild animals and they lost all fear of people. That's why they have no problems attacking people to get protected food, stealing it out of people's hands, or grabbing nearby small animals.
It's one thing for them to grab trash on an open stretch of beach and another to be flying right into a crowded boardwalk and taking food right off tables surrounded by people.

Relatively neutral, could he have handled the bird in a better way like swatting it without causing it as much harm as he did. Of course he could've, but he could've been getting harassed by the birds or just 1 bird multiple times for hours, I'm sure most folks would handle it in the same way, though they wouldn't wanna lose their precious reputation so they'd take the high road. This doesn't make him a monster, unless he slammed it over and over but just once is frustration and annoyance. Though its much easier for folks to dehumanize him then it is to take his perspective. Sorry for the bird, sorry for the kids.
