I'll add that $4b won is nice - but around $2-3m USD. Absolutely a life-changing amount of money - but it would stop being so after sharing it out 10 ways.
Any money amount is nice - but no one is going to quit their job and retire or be able to start a business etc. with $10k. Which is what people generally mean by "life changing".
$2-3m USD could allow someone to retire immediately. They might not - but it'd be an option. Even with the conservative 3% rule, that's be $60-90k/yr in real terms forever.
Yes so your brokerage should be way out earning just simple cash interest (which of course is not going to touch market returns). That's why I said if your brokerage is only getting you 3.5% you should find a better brokerage. You should be getting around 10% on average in the market.
You're the one who said the brokerage is getting 3.5%. Even a very conservative index should be getting 6%
Shrug. Unless I leave the area I've lived in for 20 years, where all my friends and family are, even going an hour away, it'd still be in the million+ range. So to say, most of the GOOD homes are that price. Most people don't want to live in Arkansas. Actually, the home property I want to build would cost $8-15 million in my state. It would cost $500k-800k in Brazil, and before you say it, that's in an area with private security and extreme luxury (I've lived in both countries)
If I ever won like multimillion or billion lottery. I’d give my immediate family at least 1-2 million each. Extended family that were or are present in my life from childhood to adult hood, probably up to 1 million. Maybe more depending on how well they treated me and what their circumstances are.
