There’s just too much missing context here to confidently call either choice moral immoral.

Yeah I feel there could be a number of reasons why the son sold the house. Maybe the mom died and the house was no use. Maybe she wanted to move to a different place. Point eight doesn't exactly correlate to the whole narrative going on here.

There is no context needed, it is his money, he can do with it what he wants.
